Stutter on autosaving
Hi there,

I've been playing the game for a couple of hours now and I must admit the graphics leave much to be desired to say the least, definitely worse than JC3. I do understand that they set the performance as their top priority but it shouldn't be done at the expense of the visual fidelity. I do hope they'll release a day one patch improving on atrociously low lods, flickering shadows and the lack of antialising. And yes I did everything to remedy situations including hitting the APPLY button and changing screen modes followed by restarts. And I play on gtx1080 ti at 4k...

There's one more issue, though, which I haven't seen anyone else mention, namely stutter/lag on autosave whenever the little diskette icon appears in the bottom left hand corner. I had the game installed on hdd initially as JC3 didn't have that kind of problem but later I tried moving JC4 both to ssd and nvme disks respectively and to no avail - it still does the same thing, the game just freezes for a second or so as If the autosave kind of interfered with assets streaming. Does anyone else experience this kind of behaviour? No, other game in my library does that including latest aaa releases

I'm still on the fence as to whether keep playing on or ask for a refund and believe me I try really hard to like this game but it's been nothing but a disappointment to me so far...

Hey there, Booga, I have now racked my brain over this autosave stutter issue for 3 days now and solved it. :)))))

First, I think the graphics are at least as good as jc3 plus the trees look much better but that is beside the point here heheheh....

1. I moved the game folder via steam interface to my samsung 850 Evo SSD, (where my OS also resides), 250 GB, mind you, after doing that it still indicated it had over 10 per cent of free space, also, I had run my SSD by the book, with all the tweaks needed switched on in the software and properly connected hardware, read on this if this does not help, there are always like 5 or 6 things to tweak after you install your ssd physically so that it actually really reads and writes those 500 MB a second ...

2. After this operation there is not a single or even a slightest hiccup on saving (when the diskette appears). hehehehehe successs!!!!!!!

3. Hope that helped Boewulf, happy gaming, enjoy the playability of the game, the graphics are not that bad :) cheers

Hey. Big correction here.

After exiting the game and reloading it again I saw the very same old issue. Actually, identical.

Therefore I think it is not the SSD or HDD question.

There followed a few hours of nerve racking analysis. I came up with the idea to uninstall my avast and install a new Antivirus.

Lo an behold, after uninstalling avast and running jc4 without any AV ... no stutter whatsoever. I tried installing Total AV but the windows defender won't let me.

So I just updated windows defender with the new definitions and will leave it at that.

No more issues, game runs smooth as f*#k, no hiccups.

Hope it helps you Guys, too,

cheers

Using a symbolic link to put the save folder in a RAM disk fixes this issue
