How does the frontline work?
From what I'm hearing they removed town/base liberation, and replaced it with a new mechanic called the frontline. How does it work? Is it an improvement?

My personal opinion is they have made it worse. Just Cause is about blowing stuff up everywhere. However with this they removed the blowing up stuff from towns and instead made it so you have to do stunts constantly. Lastly you need to do Chaos to move the frontline however because towns dont have the good old big boom things in them anymore you have to fly around everywhere to find a good spot to blow stuff up (it takes forever to get squads to do front lines). Anyhow this is just what I think. :)

I agree with this, I much prefer the way they did it with Just Cause 3, in JC3 it actually felt like destroying stuff was important now it's just like "Oh look a big explosive dome, wow cool explosion and a bit of chaos" That and the lack of an FOV option are the only complaints I have so far.

You get squads from causing chaos, then unlock regions with squads. Frontline is basically where there is combat between black hand and your chaos army (on the edges). Towns are pretty much irrelevant now, but you also don't need to find each destructive item in every place.

This is the main reason people have in JC3 that makes the devs to perform this change.

Also in the last game sometimes whatever is already placed inside an enemy compound just isn't enough to fill up the meter in order to 'liberate' it for some reason. You end up having to cause chaos nearby to trigger the wanted level and then methodologically lure the responding enemy units into the compound. That is some extremely tedious work.

I like it so far. Being able to just run around an have fun in a base without having to find that last generator is really nice.

Also in bases the enemy respawn seams slower than the older games allowing me to actually play around with a sniper rifle and have it be useful. It's great!

There's basically nothing to destroy. One base per province, if you're lucky, with a few outposts dotted here and there. There's zero military or propaganda presence in the towns and cities so there's no noticeable difference when you liberate a province.

The one base you have to destroy to be able to move the front line is often lightly defended and recieves no reinforcements.

Yep totally agree, they stripped players of the precious freedom of open world "do it your way" base take over goodness provided in JC3 replacing it with scripted busy work of follow the Mission ICONs straight jacket of boredom. JC3 had a wonderful combination of main story missions locked until you took over certain amount of the map, just like JC4, the difference is you could take the map anyway you wanted, any facility, any time and any way within certain regions. That was the magic of JC to me, it is why I love the game. JC4 stomps all over that magic with this mess. I still love the other stuff retained and improved, but it's hard to ignore the freedom that's been lost.

except you actually have more freedom now since it's easier to unlock the stuff you actually want to do instead of being forced to liberate every node in an area to advance the story.
