To clarify, though you lose your current character, you do make progression by unlocking new characters, levels, abilities, etc.

Things stay unlocked when you die.

you can also deposit items and use them on later characters

There appears to be a misunderstanding here, so let me clarify.

During your runs, you earn chicken nuggets for every level up, and as mission rewards for the optional missions, which are given to you by an NPC on some levels, up until 99 pieces. When you die, your current amount of chicken nuggets carries over, and you can buy stuff at home base.

Most of it are permanent unlocks, like an item that didn't appear as a possible mission reward, or a trait that didn't appear as a possible level up choice.

You can also - again, permanently - unlock mutators and characters for doing specific things, like use an alarm button, destroy gravestones, or put out fires.

Lastly, every character has a super special ability, which you can unlock - also permanently - by completing their big quest. After that you can use it with the super special abilities mutator.

Other than that, yes, you lose your progress. No matter if you were a millionaire, or had some really cool stuff, you will start your next run with whatever is listed for your character. The most you can do about it is to buy an extra piece of loadout, but that only lasts for a single run.

When you die in multiplayer co-op, you drop all your items on the ground and become a ghost. The other players can resurrect you by giving you half of their health (so long as they have at least 20 health). It's up to them if they take any of your gear as 'payment' or leave it all for you. It works really well actually.

Hi, i'm thinking about buying this game. I just have a question before doing so:
You talked about permanent unlocks. You can you also reset all unlocks in the game? Also the permanent ones?

When i did not play a game for a longer time, i want to have a fresh new experience again and i tend to restart over from scratch.

I do the same thing and I can confirm you can reset this game at will.

Thanks.
I already bought this game. And I'm very happy with it.
