how long did it take for you to learn C#?

Not very long, but I already had experience programming in various languages. It's more about the underlying concepts than the syntax.

Tips for how to learn? Well in general, just like any other skill you'd want to learn... practice makes perfect? I started using C# about 3.5 years ago after starting Streets of Rogue development in Construct 2. After learning the basics and doing some tutorials, it became less about getting myself educated in the traditional sense and more about "ok I need to do a thing to make the game work in this way, how do I do this thing". Essentially I learned on the job. And because the job is a lot of hours and demands that Streets of Rogue functions as it does, I learned it pretty well.

If you want to make games, Unity and C# is certainly a good way to go. Though Game Maker or Construct 2 are probably easier for a total beginner. Bear in mind I had a computer science degree and had been programming off and on for years before embarking on SOR's development.
