gamepad only works for player 2

My xbox controller can connect to the game, but player 1 can use only keyboard/mouse. In the control settings it says something about how the gamepad can only be used by player 2.

Is this an intentional setting in the game? I remember being able to use a controller the last time i played a couple months ago.

Let me know if you know why this is and if there is a fix/workaround.

so im playing on a mac and am struggling to get to the game files to delete techsettings.dat. how exactly am i supposed to get to the "user" place? I can probably figure out the rest from there

I'm not sure to be honest (I don't typically use a mac, maybe somebody else can answer this?), but have you tried messing around at all in the controller bindings screen and following the other directions on this page, such as using the Assign Controller button? This is probably going to be more effective than deleting those files.

Yeah I did all that it it still says (P2 must use gamepad) underneath the option for controller settings. Thanks for your help though

When it says "P2 must use gamepad", this just means that P2 can't use the keyboard, only P1 can.

There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to get P1 using the gamepad if "P1 Controller" is set to "Gamepad" and everything is set up properly in the bindings screen.

If all else fails, try deleting the regedit stuff that the troubleshooting mentions.

I eventually deleted techsettings.dat and chose gamepad controls when prompted on restart. I had to select the option with my keyboard, btw. It isnt the controller either - in the callibration menu it registers the joystick movements just fine.

Not sure what else I can do on my end other than just play with the keyboard. Havent played since dowtown and uptown were added!
