How do I play Online Multiplayer?
This may be an easy question but I didn't see any Multiplayer options. I only found the co-op option in game for local play.

Also, Is is possible to join a friends game or invite them to ours?

main menu, online, create online game, type /invite

I'll make it more obvious in the future. I get it, the game doesn't show you the main menu the first time you play, so it can be confusing. Oversight on my part.
