Cross-Platform Online Multiplayer?

Does the game feature cross-platform online multiplayer? That is, could I play with a friend who bought the game on his iphone?

As late as I might be to this classiest of parties, I must needs tell you developers that this comment convinced me to both buy the game AND start using "to drop an insult (while sitting on the toilet)" as an euphemism for defecation.

That's a complete lie. Not only does cross-platform not work, online itself doesn't work, either

How does the multiplayer matching function? Does it matter which character and map you choose? I think it would be better if you could see everyone online available and select a player to challenge as opposed to just having a wait screen that shows you nothing. After you match up then you pick your characters and map.
