It simply disables difficulty settings, random summons can straight up kill you, +1 resource to Sauron is effectively +1 difficulty lvl, but the card's mechanic actually makes it to be at the very least lvl 2 at all turns before Sauron takes action, so that's either +1 attack for something, +1 resource or random summon, which is the worst possible.
You're actually denied to play any kind of combo deck or decks, that try to work around a few cards or maybe have most of it's card a fix place on the board, because the encounter stacks up too much card removal.
On the first phase you have 4 turns or you lose, on 2nd phase you can't draw cards from your actual deck normally and your actual deck is destroyed by Goblin Sneak, because you either give up disguise (if you at least have a +4 attack character) or get a card destroyed. Like there weren't enough random card removal in the game already.
Oh, and if you somehow managed to draw a few cards in that phase and maybe buffed up a goblin to kill the enemies, then you lose that buff card too when you advance.
On next phase, if you drew too muhc cards from deck, then you lose because of that... because Sauron summons 3 nama 3/5, 4 mana 3/4 protected, 4 mana 3/7, that generates 2 threat every turn... AND Sauron gets randomly +1 attack, +1 minion, +1 resource each turn MULTIPPLE TIMES on top of everything.
To handle all these, you have ~10-12 cards in a deck, that don't have too much card draws + the heroes to handle these things. And even if you have some card draws, you either won't have enough resources or you're playing super cheap cards, that won't have enough power to withstand the pressure of these crazy strong enemies.
And a little bonus, on the first encounter, Sauron is actually able to kill one of your heroes with it's starter board even on NARATIVE mode! And he has 2 minions, that can guard up to protect the 'fleeting' one, that brings additional enemies to completely screw you up -.-
It is indeed a tough Encounter and full of interesting twists, but I really enjoyed it. I beat narrative with Arwen, Dain, and Dwalin. They are really good to use in getting your feet wet with this one.
- 2 failures on challenge mode.
- 1 failure on adventure(lack of time but low health already).
As i've said before, the developers have no common sense. They ought to set it lower difficulty and then ramp up upon data results analysis. What they do instead is kill enthusiasm and expect more game buyers (eg 1st campaign spiders horde and lose all allies event).
Calling for help attachment- ought to reduce to 2 enemies called instead of 3.
Is not just this Gundabad encounter, other live streams also see the developers butt kicked badly. Who in the right mind would buy?
Bugs i enounter:
- Legolas upkeep +1 danage did no harm to hungry bats
- Rhuduar enemy after forest snared still can attack me
- Music volume revert to low when starting game(seemed syned to my youtube volume)
Will there be chat lobby in game for players to meet? This game is dead. You can finish watching a movie while once in a while alt-tab check if player has join and is nobody.
It's not an easy build, but when you plan correctly you'll have little difficulty clearing the challenge.
Playing on the highest difficulty i still have to try, but all in all it's a great and fun challenge to do!
Sorry to you or anyone i missed joining the game.
Mentioned before and i'll say again, i wonder if developer can do what is in Starcraft2 coop mode which is to auto alt-tab back to game when someone has joined the game/game starting.
It is not feasible to keep on waiting. Often do web browsing/watch video thus auto alt- tab back to game like in Starcraft2 coop mode would be helpful.
Can developers answer if this is feasible?
We ended up with 49 Sauron thread points but we won,was fun.
I could do that, but what's the fun in that?
Just give it some time.. You guys will figure it out! ^^

Setting up near constant card draw with Faramir is key
Use the stealth fate event on Imladris Minstrel and don't break her stealth afterward
Load up Glorfindel on all forge equipment at the end unless you have a miner in play (which can take the dwarf favoring piece)
Tweak as desired. Always happy to hear suggestions for swaps and improvements.
*Raises hand enthusiastically*
Any game that kicks it's own developers tail yet is still fun and actually beatable is a big plus in my book.
This seems to be the Dark Souls of digital card games for many people. Some won't like it. I think it rocks.
Narrative is incredibly kind for those that just want to enjoy a lighter challenge but you still have to learn how to play the game properly first.
Indeed. Drawing Imladris Minstrel late with that deck is very hard to over come... yet, with that challenge deck I posted, I managed to get 3 of the 4 bonus challenges at the end and I wasn't even trying for them because I'd forgotten what they were from the narrative run (a good while back).
*edit* were there 5? I thought there were 4. Oh well, 3 of 5 then.
Just use any kind of rush deck with some ammount of willpower on a few cards.
Use Faramir, Legolas and some random dude, use cards with extremely good effect/cost ratio, like Outriders (2/3 with 2 damage on arrival for low resource cost), Forest Snre is good, but it currently is bugged - if the Horde event activates the card, it will still be able to attack - use mainly cheap cards with highest cost of 3, for safety, you can bring Glorfindel as 3rd hero.
That Dwarven something AoE card is absolutely bonkers here, use it, don't mind taking that 1 damage for yourself, Faramir will give you card draw, allow you to use minstrels for heal and is ranged, so you can attack through guarded up enemies. Legolas is the same, also allows you to pick tactic cards, which will be needed (focus on cheap block cards).
Glorfindel alone gives you good threat management and his special card is great - if not evil stormed - at the 3rd and 4th phases.
At 2nd phase, after some cleanup, you could try farming up your deck, just don't finish the last minion (with Faramir, youcan draw cards from your actual deck).
Also, try to get a 4 attack character before you advance to phase 2, so you can oneshot the Goblin Sneak, that would destroy a card from your deck on attack.
