Genuine Question, Why is the Modern Faction so Requested?

Why does everyone want a modern faction? Sure, tanks or jets might be cool, but regular units would be pretty dull. Landfall already said that they might add a few modern secret units, which covers the few that would be interesting. So why do people still insist we should have a modern faction when it would just consist of boring ranged units?

There are many other historical eras with way more potential for interesting factions. Ever heard of the Aztecs? The tribal era of existence holds potential for interesting melee units (look up what a macuahuitl is), ranged units with debuffs such as poison, and voodoo magic.

Even the Egyptians would make for a better faction than modern. With khopesh-wielding guardsmen, powerful gods, and ritualistic ceremonies, the Egyptians are way more fascinating combat-wise than modern weaponry.

Please enlighten me to others' way of thinking, I wish to know.

I mean, I figured people would moreso be advocating for guns in the hero unit, which would have better FPS-like gameplay.

Any unit in that faction would be so hard to balance, I have done work trying to find a balanced cost for the M16 that does the same damage as Quickdraw and has no health would cost 4500, assuming they have a 5 second reload every 30 shots.

If the Gatling Gun did not need to speed up(Irl, they did not need to take so much time to wind up, it would take about a second to get to full speed) and did decent damage(They should do the same a Deadeye as they use similar bullets) would be comparable to Artemis who costs 6500.

The cost is more exponential then most would think and for a Modern faction. You could not use any unit other then gun units for a Modern campaign, unless you wanted to kill a computer with 100+ units so they can get to the Modern units before getting shot and the vast majority of the Modern vs other factions would really only be Modern vs the boss units. The only melee unit you could do is a sapper, unit with a broken gun, combat knife, or maybe a marine saber and most people wound find those less interesting then the other units, so only 1 or 2 would likely be added, like the Wild West faction.

This. I'm not against modern units in general. A tank unit like they once showed back in 2018 would be freaking awesome, but I think a modern faction would be a waste of time. The only good thing that would come out of it would be a cool modern map. Modern units would be better as secret units since secret units tend to be the more op ones. Lest they be nerfed to oblivion and unfun to use.
