Can current Vive controllers or trackers be upgraded with the TS4231 ASIC?

I recently read that the current generations of tracking hardware does not support the new sync-on-beam format emitted from the lighthouse 2.0 base stations. Currently I believe all hardware uses TS3633 Light to Digital Converters. But when I compare the two IC both are 9 bump WLCSP package and have very similar pinouts. I am curious if the TS3633 can be swapped with a TS4231 on existing controllers, headsets and trackers? I have experience reworking BGA ICs and could definitely do the swap no prob. But would it even be possible?

The existing Vive HMD and controllers use discrete sensors (not ASICs at all, but 40 individual components). They cannot be upgraded.

How about the G1 HTC Trackers? Any word on whether HTC will update it. I've been told it's not likely.
