Nuclear Dawn
The game in the title holds a special place for me, but sadly its been deserted for years. Its rare to see any studio to come after its mantle considering its a super niche genre.

I hope especially after that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with your scumbag ex-publisher that you hit a home run with this, its good to see fresh blood undertaking an underappreciated genre that deserves attention, may you breathe life into it.

gonna say something unpopular here. as a dev ( NOT representing the studio)
This is as real as it gets and we're real. So here goes

We all wish for something, but will only back it after it's big.
Big devs (AAA) will only do something once they've seen it successful elsewhere.
Mainstream media majority of the time will not write about it no matter what the uniqueness is, UNTIL it hits big.

Some genres we like struggles to be big because majority of Gamers too do the same, they won't play till it's big. It's a cycle. If every guy who worries about the playerbase joins the crowd, there'll be a playerbase like you never believe. You won't believe the amount of time we hear someone saying, i wont play because it's not big already.

Marketing is tricking the masses to believe it's big before it's big. that's why big budget and AAA's always win.

Ultimately, 'go down the toilet' is not even about the playerbase count.
Check the charts, Nuclear dawn and NS2 have under 10k playerbase in all recorded history. But NS2 lasted far many more years as a community. It's the quality , support and community and the uniqueness of replacement. So what , Artifact could have 60,000 players and today Eximius have more CCU than it. None of the hard numbers matters.

This is Indie, this is about developers making the game they want to see succeed. ( not talking about us , talking about indie in general)
I vote with my dollars what I want to see exist and hope for the best.. If the game go down the toilet, it goes. While it's there, I enjoy it for what it is. As fleeting as it may be.
Let's be honest, we all only play a fraction of the game we have in the lib. ( mine's only about 50% ). So I don't sit and expect every game I purchase is a wise calculated choice that the game is going to be the next Fortnite that I can play for next 2 decades.

Again I'm speaking as a Gamer. Completely respect your choice. Not here to convince you of a sale. That's the reality of indie, we make what we want, we take the risk. Just had to get this outta my chest.

Amen, i come from ND and NS2 and instantly fell in Love with Eximius <3

Same. Loved Nuclear Dawn, Natural Selection, and Savage (the fantasy RPG/RTS/FPS). There's something great about these FPS/RTS hybrids. I'll be keeping an eye on this one as it approaches launch.

I played like 40k hours of Savage, lots of NS/NS2. I love this genre. However, 5v5 is an GIGANTIC mistake devs. Make it like 32 player servers at least. Why is every single game so hyper focused on brutal player accountability? This is why games aren't as fun as they used to be.

Would also add Tremulous to your lists :)

5v5 is very poor though. Lost interest as soon as I've seen that.

I really enjoyed playing Nuclear Dawn years ago but 5v5 just makes me think they're going for the MOBA audience. I'll pass.

BTW is Nuclear Dawn worth playing or is it too incomplete?

I got bored in ND way to fast cuz there is acutally no base building, only movin towers forward. In Eximius u can build the base complete freely and even do special tactics with that.

I like the 5vs5 concept. Games are filling quickly, and with the massive amound of KI units it feels just good to be Officer or do the commanding yourself.

Gotta be insane to go back to ND after playing this pearl :D

Just a bit of sharing for clarity, not discounting your wishes, it's just an entirely different experience :

5v5 isn't about MOBA. It's a more officer-to-squad focused experience. Specifically the gameplay interaction between officer(Players) and commander-trained AI units, infantry , vehicle, robotics etc. Throw you a practical example :

You move down the street, clearing the road with your 4 man squad; you and 3 AI marines who are assigned to you. Enemy approaches with heavy infantry, you ask for support, commander pulls back IFV from adjacent street , send to your area and proceed to slaughter the approaching heavy infantry, you then proceed and capture the resource point and secure the area. Commander deploys weapon crew beside you as your guard the point. Weapon crew proceeds to mortar bombard the other lanes where your OTHER allied officer ( human players ) is at.

You do things that that help the commander's forces. Commander sends you support where you cannot handle
This isn't possible with Nuclear Dawn. It's similar-ish due to the fact that there is one commander and a bunch of players on the ground , but the similarity stops there.

This isn't MOBA either. I can't imagine why you call it MOBA, maybe you can explain .

Honestly this game meets its image, but still have steps before being perfected.
None the less, an amazing experience to be sure.
I enjoy the squad system especially as a Agies.

I've found that gameplay moves too fast...especially in commander seat where I was just creating new units and clicking on new research as fast as possible; not taking time to see what or how many I was making because A.I. officers were racing into the field and getting killed instantly.
