As a new player, you will be able to change your faction once without any stipulations. Typically, you are not able to change them if you have played more than 5 minutes on either side.
There are numerous differences in equipment between the factions, but a focus on the 'culture' of either side will be more beneficial in picking a side. Colonial or collies are more focused on public facilities and overall more welcoming. In comparison, the Wardens are more clan and privately based with a far more serious sentiment.
Go watch some videos if you need more to decide on. There are plenty.
Just try both sides. The current war is nearly over so you will only be locked to that faction for a few days at most. Go wardens ;)
