I built a facility with coal liquefication despite the low production amount of petrol compared to oil fields and it still turned out rather useful.
I produced so much concrete and gave so much away that a lot of defenses were able to be conced quite early.
So at the end it wasn't the petrol that turned out to be the selling point of coal liquefication but the concrete materials.
That turns out to be exactly 17 MW which allows you to run 2 coal refineries at 6 MW, run the 3 harvesters on petrol a materials factory for Msupps wire etc an Oil Refinery with Reformer and have 0.5 mw leftover for the waterpump
Since I made this post I have run several coal liquefication facilities and perfected it to my best ability.
My setup is now three advanced coal liquefiers, one coke furnace, two sulphuric power stations(or three coal power station) for 30 energy.
Two oil refineries aswell. It just takes one queue of petrol production to keep the harvesters running. The advanced coal refineries can also produce heavy oil.
The sulfur byproducts are enough to keep producing enriched oil.
Its actually a very viable thing to do. Especially since neither petrol nor heavy oil are the main exports. Its concrete. I exported so much concrete, its quite crazy how much demand there is for concrete. I have sent entire ironships full of concrete palletes worth to all the hexes this war.
So yeah, Coal liquefication is extremely viable. Though my calculations weren't wrong I forgot about one important thing: Multiple queues in the facility buildings.
