But frankly speaking, the main make or break for me for the game back then was:
1. Action. How good is combat? Will I get bored of how combat is or will I enjoy it.
2. Community. Are they bearable enough for me to play? No game is free from toxic players, but if I can find a few good players here and there, that's good enough for me.
The heavier mechanics, I can study later, since technically, in the first few hours ingame, you won't be able to casually do them anyway since they require a lot of prep time and effort. And believe me, a weekend ain't gonna cover it.
Believe me, the two I mentioned is the most common thing you'll be doing ingame. So it's best to get the a good idea on how those two are and if they align to your interest. The others, that's a late game thing, especially if the current war is in, I think they call it Resistance period? I forgot. But resistance period is usually the time where most people are training new people and that's the best way for a quick and basic tutorial.
As far as I know, there has never been a free weekend, so don't get your hopes up.
Look at footage of the game (actual gameplay footage, not some stupid and ridiculous montage an influencer make to get views) on Youtube to give you a good idea of the game.
The biggest appeal of this game is that this is an MMO based on the fact that everything has to be done by someone (a player) in the chain. People gather resources, they use said resources to build stuff (ammo, weapons, tanks, the whole nine yards) and then soldiers on the front use that to wage a real time war. If this basic concept don't appeal to you from the get go then this game is likely not going to be for you to begin with.
