Bigger is not better. Campaign map is too big.
With the lack of players in this game perhaps the devs ought look to make world map smaller (Perhaps 1 or 2 lanes from north to south). Recently Dev blog wanting to make the map bigger seems like an bad idea. They should down size depending on the player count.

Previously when they got their pop boom they lost many people very quickly due to a lack of maps for people to play on. Increasing this size while being a problem now would keep more active players from the next large pop boom. It may suck now but this in the long run may be a good decision.

Its a catch 22. Game feels dead, when you are passing so many ghost towns and log on to see 20 people defending the some town. its just kills moral when there is no man power.

The problem is that anything less than 9 maps severely limits strategy, like a lot.

Anything less than 9 would simply wined up being a stupid meat grinder. Population dropped fast for a couple of reasons, game hasnt released yet so I believe your observations are very premature.

There is a reason many games use 3 lanes......

I am not sure about that - after all, tempest island is such a meat grinder. Yet, it seems to be one of the most popular maps.

Then the issue is encouraging new players to join... But oh wait, some doesn't like the grind and turn to griefing, which in turn results in players leaving.

Large MMO-like scale games always will run into problems like this. Where you have a faction joined by one miscreant that ruins it for everyone, and once that happens, even if you banned them, the damage is already done.

Today I decided to abandon this game. Maybe for standard soldier more maps is ok. But not for ppl who running logi, building etc. I'm tired by rebuilding towns, after enemy raids because region was empty and was no soldier to response.
