Viewing distance.
I am a bit stumped. I am getting shot by enemies without ever seeing them. Even with a decent rifle looking in the direction the shots are coming from, holding m2 and aiming down sights my camera will not zoom out far enough for me to see the shooter and return fire, even in open ground this happens. What am i missing?

They probably won't see you either, just shoot in the direction where the shots are coming from.

I do but the main problem is how am i always getting spotted first? Even when i am aware of an enemy and look in their direction they always seem to see me at a greater distance. Was told that turning your screen a certain way could give an advantage but i am not sure if that is the case.

Turning helps. Maybe they have a spotter with binos.
Or they use the trick with the mounted grenade launcher on the rifle.

Ah well that would explain some of my deaths.

There are multiple ways as I see it. You have people who use binoculars, which may be able to detect you or comrades, there's the occassional red glow of your enemy, even if you can't see them, and then you have the screen turning, which is nice.

Binoculars are by far the best at spotting enemies, I've gunned down multiple enemies across a very narrow bridge using only where their gunshots are and where I see them, after that it's just the point of pinpointing at them with your rifle (which is plenty easy, provided you have the angle).

Alternatively, get a wide screen monitor and turn the screen so the corner of the monitor is in front of your character. You will see about 2-3x further than any one else walking forward.

Yes, the Field Of View needs some SERIOUS work doing to it.

That's bound to the top down view though, which has a certain degree of tilt. You can't fix that, turning the cam will ever get you a better sight. To fix that, they had to tilt the camera to a degree of 90 so it's directly coming from top (gta 1 or 2 birds view). Which would be a shame.
On top and that's an argument in favor of how it is, it makes sense. You see more in front of you and less to your back. Turning your head (camera) changes that.
They shouldn't change that. And it can't be fixed by field of view. Otherwise I think you don't know what field of view actually does. You can't fix this directly. What they could do is take camera rotation out so all have the same chance. Running with rifles does that and it works.
What I'm waiting for are sniper rifles though.

At the moment, you can use it to out-view all the pillboxes, foxholes and other defences, walk past the enemy troops out-viewing them and more often than not get to the enemy base and sit next to their HQ by using the corner view exploit. It is however, great fun once you do get there. HE grenades can be very messy ;)

Who doesn't want sniper rifles? :)

That's part of the game then, except they turn of camera rotation. A top down view is bound to these things, don't want that, then play first person shooters only. All can use the same "tricks", so it's an even playing field.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I tried to tell my comrades that something was weird, when we was being shot with barely a chance to fire back, they just told me to "get gud". I am new to the game to be sure. All i was hoping for is an even playing field where we all have the same view distance, But i guess i will have to learn this camera exploit or spend all my time in logistics and help my team that way.

Yes, I agree. I hope the Devs adjust this and allow a zoom in/out feature. This is my #1 request to the Devs, and I hope it would be at the top of their list. In the meantime, you have to constantly adjust the camera angle. If you are on a widescreen monitor, and when trying to see/view the enemy, you have to try and get them in the corner of your widescreen monitor for the best view. It's a bit of a pain, because you are constantly rotating the camera angle while walking, aiming, etc.

which again, wouldnt change a thing.
How would a zoom function change it to the better? In fact, it would make it worse. Or are we talking about different things here?
What would a zoomfunction provide you?
And how would it solve the "issue" that isnt one of a tilted camera angle?
I mean holy crap, its a basic matter of physics that when you have a camera angle like this, you see further in a certain direction than in the other.
And you can "solve" that, except you want to somehow hand us over secret knowledge about space and time and "bend" light to give us a different perspective that has a 360 degree view while still being tilted.
The only way to "solve" it was to give all players the same view and disable camera rotation. Not include more camera movement.

That's what I am doing, ultra-wide monitor.

Binoculars let you see much further. I always carry a pair, no matter what I'm doing. Knowing where the enemy is can be invaluable, whether you're part of a mortar team, or not.

Also, attachments, like the grenade launcher, can give you a longer sight range, whether you have grenades or not.

Field of view is totally broken in this game, and the devs don't seem to be willing to fix it.
