How do you increase rank?

Same as the title says, how do you increase your rank, and how do you see your own rank whilst in game?

u can see it with F1 im not sure on the specifics for your level but you need Commends from other people to increase your rank from Nothing to private>LCpl>Cpl etc

I for one only commend random people for helping out. The "boosting" aspect of this game is too strong between friends, and it's a huge turn-off for many people, including myself. Not enough to drive me away, but I am a bit salty about it.

On the other hand, earning your rank is satisfying when you never ask anyone to commend you. It's just unfortunate that most people save them for their buddies.

I actually did get a random individual to give me a rank up by being really useful during one moment in the game but let's just think about this situation for a second. You have to have an individual that A) actually knew how to do this through the F1 key. B) actually cared enough about the ranking system to help someone else with their ranking. C) actually was impressed enough to help me. This is the path I happened to find for my first rank. However, it is MUCH easier to just tell the people in your truck to give you accommodations like an uber driver that just asked their passengers for a five-star rating. I actually tried this with a group that felt comfortable with me because I had risked my butt for them several times and they obliged me but this mechanic in the game is much too easily exploitable and much too much a temptation to act nasty or creates uncomfortableness in the game. Considering how great this community is (the worst person I've seen thus far sounded like a Yo-Gi-Oh villain which was dang hilarious to me) I would hate for something like this current system to get in the way of a great experience. It really should get changed. Maybe have it focus on how often you heal someone as that is something I'm not seeing as many people doing right now (also probably because it's kinda hard with the equipping system right now but still).

"Earn your rank" assumes that rank will be given when it's deserved. The complain is precisely that **this is not happening.**

Agreed, i've done logi all the time in an extended 10 hours session and guess what, i only got 1-2 commends.
It's easier to get them by trading, even when you get badmouthed by clan players (who bump it into eachother) telling you, the despise trading, when asking in teamchat for it.

Well you get a lot of available commends while scrapping and doing logistics, why shouldn't i trade them?
And i don't trade them all, i often give commends to other players, who tell in teamchat, that they do logistics and brought valuable stuff.
Also everyone who gave me a commend got one back, even when i earned that commend, but i rarely encounter this behaviour from others.

Level means more than rank, Rank is what people see first tho... but just something to think about is that MOST people in clans commend eachother just to get high levels, For example I saw a clan on 2 days ago who Had a Lt. and 2Lt a Major, a Ocdt, and a WO1, REALLY??? And the Ocdt and WO1 were both "[Clan name] Pvt"

Places to use those commends:

• On Decent QM's,
  
• On logi's successful (or failed through destruction) deliveries.
  
• On people being helpful with new players
  
• On people that have that little extra scrap when you've not got enough
  
• On people that build defenses where it's needed (or where it's sparse)
  
• On those that attempt pushes whether they succeed or fail, it's the taking part that counts.
  
• On resource gathers as it's a huge monotonous time sink grind but a very necessary one if anything for the team is to be achieved.
  
• etc.
