Knocking on doors?

Is there a point to knock on doors and be let in? It seems the only point is to just trade with them. Or do people game it and steal stuff and regain back trust?

Personally, I used this feature to find men trading bandages for bottles of water, because during the nights they can only be found inside. I guess by now you know why someone would require bandages at night. ;)

there's an exploit actually, when you can knock beforehand on every door in district and then steal the whole ♥♥♥♥ out of it without a single use of lockpick. I personally use knocking solely for seeking coffeeguys.
