series x and xbox one controller fix

when starting this game the buttons where mapped wrong and the look movement would bring up a menu and I had other button mapping problems , now Ive had this problem on other games and to get round this I would not turn my controller on until I was in game and it sorted any mapping problems or spinning, unfortunately this didn't help me with this game.
what did work was I went into the library in steam, went to properties for this game, then controller, I then click on xbox controller and set steam to default setting, loaded up the game with controller on and now it works fine for me. before doing this I went into the controller settings and clicked xbox controller and had forgotten to turn my controller on so I then when a head with setting it up for this game. not sure if it a wireless controller issue only, not sure why this worked as most of my games work with this controller with no problems,the odd few games do strange things.
