Kine is a plural term for cow. So it literally means "how are your cattle?" But it seems to function as a greeting as well, which makes sense considering how integrated cattle herding is in the lives of the steppe people.

Seconding this.

Kine definitely refers to cattle in this case, the expression is clearer in the Russian translation.
It has the interesting implication that the well-being of the cattle is more important or at least equal to the well-being of the person. This also goes together with the idea that the steppe people put less emphasis on the lives of individual people.
Of course the expression seems to be archaic and metaphorical since pretty much none of the steppe people own cattle anymore. Except for Burakh of course, if you actually BOUGHT THE BVLL :-^)

The Kin's whole philosophy about needing to be a people unified as a single entity (as Taya says about separating fingers from hands being stupid) would probably imply that asking "How is your herd" and "How are you" is the same question in Steppe Language. You are what you look after.
