How old is Madeline?

We were theorizing in Iateyourpie's twitch stream chat that she might be 19, as she says she copes with depression by drinking, and the legal age for drinking is 19 in Vancouver as far as my google-fu says.

How old is Madeline officially in canon?

EDIT: We have our answer! According to Matt (the main developer behind Celeste) Madeline's age is up for interpretation, but dev himself thinks of her as being in the mid-20's, in the 22-28 range. EDIT: People are misreading my comment to Yuki, as his original post was removed for being out of line. I can't remember completely what the post said, but this was in response to a remark I myself found close-minded - and thus tried to assert that people are different and people's lives should be respected even if you don't understand or agree with them.

And really, we were just conjecturing. Ideas. Thinking. You know? I'm thinking about the lore and the story - it has a profound implication depending on Madeline's age. Also, the story really resonated with myself, and I'd like to know the canon idea of her age.

@Cure Lovely That's true (about underage drinking). However, it's also shown that she drives a car. I'm pretty sure that basically means she's at least 16 or over - my money is on over 20, actually. Perhaps 22?

@Cure Lovely no, she definitely drove on her own. You can see the car parked when you go to the core of the mountain, and there is only Celeste and the Old Woman present.

@Cure Lovely You do realize that @Yuki was the one who started talking about fapping. He had some issues with people's age, and my response was to assert that different people have different tastes. I think it is being close-minded if you can't respect other people's lives.

Going back to the issue at hand, yes, I realize she is of a very small build. However, being of a smaller build doesn't mean you are a child.

I think there was a specific story point where it is discussed about Madeline driving a car, I'll see if I can find it again and take a screenshot.

Anyway, back to topic, considering some of the longest discussions in game, she seems a bit younger than Theo but not much: he talks about work and his experiences, at some point she also point "work is fine", speaking about herself. I'd guess she's a young adult, something around 20.

Anyways, Madeline would have to be a least 16 at youngest since she appearantly drives. You
can see her car at the tutorial stage if you head the left screen over from the start.

She had me laughing out loud in the Hotel level. I forgot exactly, but when Oshiro says something and then she's responds in the gibberish language but it's real deep and sarcastic sounding and she says something like 'Yes, I'd love to see the Suite." Her ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ face looked so funny, she looked so ticked off.
