Map Making and Modding
So I haven't bought this game yet, and while I really do want to. Two things hold me back, one of them bigger then the other.

Map making and Modding.

With the current game version out, what can be done? I am looking at the Gaming-Minds Modding Wikia (found here: http://www.gamingmindsstudios.com/re-modding/) and it lists very minimal in regards to what can be done. The current modding setup seems very bare bone, however I know the game came out less then a month ago.

However the Kalypso Media store page states that a map editor is included (seen here: https://www.kalypsomedia.com/us/railway-empire).
Details: Singleplayer, Steam-Achievements, Full Gamepad Support, Steam Workshop, Steam Cloud, Contains Level-Editor

Does Level Editor mean editing existing levels? Or making new ones as well?

The second part of this is does modding include importing custom made models? Meaning ones you can make in 3D modeling suits (3ds Max, Maya, Blender, etc.). This goes for either buldings and structures, or Locomotives.

I hope someone knows the answers to these. I'd really like to get the game, but the current price tag with the minimal content (that I can see) makes me weary. Even if I really enjoy Railroad Tycoon games.

Thanks!

As you have already found our modding pages, you should have access to all information regarding modding Railway Empire (...I know, it's a wall of text and your answers might be burried somewhere in there, so I'll try to answer your questions...).

What might be a bit confusing is the fact that we make a difference between "map" and "terrain". The map contains all in-game assets of a level such as cities, rural businesses and several other things - this can be edited with our modding tools. The terrain contains information about e.g. rivers and mountains and cannot be edited.

However, with our modding tools you are able to adjust other parameters such as technologies, engine stats, tasks and the commodity system. As stated in the FAQ, custom models are not supported, but you are be able to swap the exsisting ones.

Cheers

Well that's a shame. While custom model importing would be a bit more difficult, the lack of a map editor and maker (in terms of editing terrain, rivers and so on) makes it hard for me to justify being this game. Is there any plans to include a map maker in the game?

If not then I'll probably just end up waiting till the game drops below $40. With the current content amount I've seen, paying the current price tag isn't worth is.

Thanks for at least clearing that up.

Hi!

No, I guess not. However, with the upcomming updates it might get a bit more interesting to you...
Regarding our plans for the future, we already have released a roadmap (http://download.kalypsomedia.com/RailwayEmpire_Roadmap_EN.jpg) in case you haven't seen it, yet. As you can see there, we will soon provide you a big map ("North American Map") and a random map generator. Those features combined with modding will probably lead to new possibilities.

Cheers

Hi
Sorry for my English.
I translate from Spanish to English with google.

1-Will there be a night mode?
2-A multiplayer mode?
3-Spain DLC? (history) -> https://youtu.be/pIP_k24GOuw
4-Will there be a larger timeline?

I have thousands of questions that I don't know how to convey.
It can be a big game.
It depends on the study.
The current price is not worth it. 50€
Thanks

1. There is a night mode. It's an on/off mode, not a day and night cycle.
2. Until now the answer was always no. And I highly doubt that this will change.
3. Unless RE DLC turnout is too low I'd say yes. They covered the Americas with CND, US, MEX and South America. Europe got UK & IRL, GER (incl. AUT, part of SUI, CZE, and western POL, remember the time frame) and FRA. SPA should be on their road map a high priority. But they won't denial nor confirm at the moment.
4. Timeline is 1830-1930 in 20 years periods and full 100 years. As far as I recall that won't be expanded.

1000. Check out the discussion, bug report and feature request forums :) Oh and don't forget to bring along your buddy google translate ;)
True.
Take your time.
Remember that we Europeans have a common market. You can buy legally in other currencies, too. And from time to time there are discounts. Right now I could buy it for €13.26 til 23. Aug.
Your welcome

Are there any known plans to allow new engines to be added through modding? I gather it hurts their feelings to have more than the one Diesel, but that could be fixed through mods and the developers could maintain plausible deniability.

So, to clarify, there are no plans for a terrain editor feature? I would really like to custom design terrain and not just use the random generated one.

Hi @Xbwalker!

The answer to your question was already mentioned in post #1:
