Dining Cars !
I just tech'ed up Dining cars; is it legal [or kosher] to give ALL my express types these cars in a system-wide 'bonus', or one-at-time at my stations while they're standing still ?

Dining cars are cars where passengers can eat and drink during their months long journey from one city to another. I don't know how passengers can survive otherwise, maybe they've brought along enough sandwitches to cast some food spells, I don't know.

As for dining cars, I have only found a video of our days, sorry, no painting :(

Whether a Dining car is kosher or halal, I don't know, it's definitely not ital ;)

Oh, and in the game it only gives a bonus on arrival.

I use them on an Express that transports only passengers. Together with a caboose if there is staff on the train.

Keep in mind that a train can only have eight cars. At the moment you put in a Dining car in an eight car train you only can transport seven normal cars. I prefer to decide for each train to put in a Dining car (and/or caboose and/or mailcar and/or fridge) or not and at the same moment making decisions concerning all the trains on the line (running more trains and/or making trains that only transport passengers, mail or goods).

Changing a consist somewhere on it's journey is no problem for the game. You could loose some cargo or passengers. I prefer to do it at a stop in a station.

Note that the 8 car limit is always true. When a train has 8 cars adding any of the four railroad cars will result in loosing one of the passenger/mail/freight cars at once - and there is no rolling back, the car and it's cargo will be teleported back to it's source (station/warehouse/industry - last one I've never checked but should also be true as no cargo shall vanish). You can remove any railroad car and add another one savely.

It's fine to put them on all your express type trains. As others have pointed out, do you want to decrease the train capacity to add this car? It's only worth if the train is only carrying passenger traffic (no mail, no freight). I like to separate my express trains to run only mail or only passengers, so I do use these cars. If I have a mixed type train, then I do not.

A question of timing : IF a train in transit is 'gifted' with a Dining car, do the 'older' PAX have to pay the extra rate when they exit the train ?
I assume that 'new' PAX do pay the newer rates when a train with a Dining car is loaded .

Yes. One of the pause-style play techniques is to add a dining and/or mail car to any train in transit that isn't full. You can bounce your conductors around as well.

I just put a dining car on all of my passenger trains. That along with a mail car, my passenger trains only have 5 loads of passengers and one load of mail for each. Cuz of that, I run dedicated mail trains alongside the passenger trains.

If you want to maximize your passenger train profits, just use a dining car on all passenger trains.

... until you run out of Platform space or money to buy more engines to meet demand ...

Well, just take out a bond or sell some unused track is what I do.

I like to keep back $2-300K for opportunity expenses ... connection bonuses, 'mobile' supply towers, etc .

Auctions are a good reason to keep a little money, too.

Otherwise expand expand expand is the usual optimum, with maximum bonds!

I try to get those connection bonuses and delete the track once I get the bonus.

There are some times where you can do your 'grab-and-dump', DOWN UNDER is a prime example; agreed .
But whaddya do when your cities pass 35000 population, and you need to keep growing ?; in a case of 6+ cities requiring 80000 population for a gold check mark ??

Basically bring in the most recent cargo that the cities need is what I do if you have a steady stream of the other products a city needs to grow.
