Railway Empire
A Good Way To Increase Population
I'm on Chapter 2 of the US campaign. I am having problems with increasing my population of Baltimore to 100k. I have increased the train station, and transported the resources people are asking for. I just need to jump from 72k to 100k. Any tips?

Thank you

Check the city demand for each good. Remember, it is percentage based, so basic goods will be demanded more and therefore have a higher weight in determining population growth. Growth percentage is calculated off cars delivered that meet demand, so something that demands 10 carloads a week fully met will help more than something that demands 2 carloads a week.

Yeah, the city grows from meeting the demands of city. So meet more of the city demands. And that means not a little but you gotta have a lot of each item. There are equations, I think all that was explained in the tutorial.

And don't forget to build a Museum when that city reaches the ability to do so. The construction of the Museum raises the "fulfillment of demand" variable by 10%.

Been playing around. Think I've got a better idea, but not a full one. Completed Chapter 2, yet going over it again to use what I've learned in the process.

Thank you.

Just took a bit of time. It helped to cockblock the ganster dude as much as poss so I could monopolise what I wanted for Baltimore. The woman just does her own thing out west so isn't so much of an issue.

Yeah, it doesn't take much to keep the thug in its playpen :
double station EACH rural and City within 200-300 miles of NYC and Albany;
and let it STARVE, until you buy it out !
But don't stop there !, drop stations in NYC, Albany, and the fruit farm by West Point .

Glad you got it sorted :)

There is also a temporary worker you can higher that will grow a City quite fast.

You will find details on the mechanics in:

which I compiled from the details discovered by the members of this forum as the game developed :)

Thank you chaney. I will take a read of that at lunch, perhaps learn a thing or two about this game.

Double station and starve it? Hmm that is an interesting concept. I'm guessing the prices of the businesses will drop?

Thanks

Note that while putting two Stations in a City will keep any other company from building one there, that doesn't work for rurals. You CAN spam track around them to make it impossible to connect, but I never found that the least bit necessary ... you're better off spending the money on your own expansion so you can rocket up your profits and just buy the slower growing AI.

Cool. Thanks for the hints and tips here. Having a little trouble with putting those signals down at the moment. Seems there is an art form to it :P.

Turn on tool tips for reminders of how they work when you place Signals.

I usually build the whole track extension then populate it fully/automatically with Directional Signals using CTRL-SHIFT as described in the guide:

"You can place individual signals, or many at a time. Hitting CTRL will place signals along an entire section of track with one click. They will be spaced roughly a full train length apart.

Click to place Stop signals, SHIFT-Click for Directional. The mouse wheel will change the planned signal direction while building, and clicking on an existing signal will change its direction."

It's fast and gives decent spacing most of the time.

Why do you guys want to block the AI? if you make them very hard they always help you to grow cities. Then you can sweep in later on their turf and use their huge cities for easy express money as there are more passengers / mail or buyout the industries and change them to the one a difficult quest needs like Cars. They are always inefficient so you can still buy them out as they cant really outgrow you.

I agree with all that, Hugo.
