1 line = 1 train? Am I missing something?
That seems so weird that I think I missed some very obvious interface tool but for the life of me, I don't think I can find it... So, is there really no way to group the trains following the same route into a "line" or something like that? When I press the "clone" button and confirm it, the new entry in the "train list" is created which is, as far as I can tell, not associated with the original train. As a result, I can only make changes to train routes one by one and most importantly, by the time I have 25+ trains, my transportation network is completely unmanageable. I'm swimming in cash but I can't figure out where I should spend them in order to achieve the scenario goals...

Am I missing something?

Correct.

You can definitely set up two way rail systems to allow for much greater throughput of trains compared to "one trail, one rail" though.

I use two way rails almost exclusively, my question is mostly about how can I make any sense of this list without a way to sort or organize it... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1271901529

You can rename the lines themselves. Like Baltimore to NY freight or express or whatever.

When you click the train, click the name and you can change it to make it easier.

Yeah I suggest renaming the lines when making them. Because it can definitely get confusing once you reach some 50 trains or more.

Hmm, ok let me try to rephrase my question... Let's say I want trains to go from city A to city B and back from B to A and I want 4 trains to service that LINE. As far as I can tell so far, those trains can only be viewed through that "train list" menu as 4 separate entries (as opposed to a single LINE entry with 4 trains assigned to it).

In other words, where are the trains' routes, itinerary, schedules, set of waypoints... LINES? You know that thing present in most other transport tycoon games out there...

Am I still not making much sense? =)

Like we said - They are still going to be four distinct different lines, not 4 trains on the same line.

As for setting their specific routes and cargo settings, this is done through the route planning system and the train setup (for specific wagons and personnel)

But that's really inconvenient... =(

Pros and Cons. It lets you choose specific platforms for every train.

It's just that after playing 2 campaign missions and part of the scenario, I find it really hard to make sense of the rail system with only 25 trains, what will I do about a 100+ train system? Oh well, it is what it is, I guess...

After playing the game a bit more, I'd like to return to that topic if that's ok... I think that my initial request for proper train "lines" is not necessarily a good idea for this game. At the same time, something definitely needs to be done about the TRAIN LIST menu. For starters, it should be possible to sort it by: the train type (so that it's easier to find trains in need of upgrade), by express/freight/auto/manual types of routes (because I want to see what are the express or freight routes) by profitability (for obvious reasons), by routes with existing problems (exclamation mark triangles).

Frankly, so far the existing possibilities for train routes management looks like it's still early in the development... =(

To answer your first question: there is not really a difference between multiple trains on one line OR multiple trains NAMED the same. "Nashville to Rochester 1" (2, 3, 4) all on the same track is effectively one line.

For the second, the train list menu is pretty much unecessary. Click on any track and you will see which trains use it, and that list is extremely useful. In the cashe of Nashville to Rochester, all four will show up in a neat list.

What happens when I have 25 stations and 60+ trains, do I have to click like 30 track segment to make any sense of my existing network?

Yes, but from how you phrased that question you seem to feel that is a negative thing. It's not. :)

When I just started playing I actually had the same issues as the OP. It took a bit of time to realize just how handy this system is. It's very... precise and compact. When you click you only get to see what you need, what is relevant . You don't have to sift through huge lists of 60+ trains but always feel in control.

It's really well done.

Well, I guess as always with modern games, it's up to moders...

What is? I am confused as to what you're asking for exactly here.

Better sorting would be nice, but I'd hardly call it gamebreaking with how it is now. I have no issues finding specific trains, since they are clearly labelled after their route destinations.
