Terrain Elevation / Topographical Map?
Is there a way to easily see the elevation of the terrain in a given map? It would make plotting out a route a bit more logical, especially in mountainous areas.

I don't remember exactly where, but it is an option setting. I think the word you are looking for is "contours". They only show up during construction (buildings and track.)

I wish that elevations were added to the contours. On the mountains, it's easy to see which way the slope is, but on rolling ground this is not so and thus it becomes a matter for experiment as to whether one should raise or lower a trackpoint to get a more level line.

And what are the contour intervals? 10 metres or 50??

In main menu / option isoplèthe ( French ) defaut is off ?
we have "isopleth" in English I suppose ? choice on :)
"is a line joining points of equal value on a map. It separates areas of low values and areas of higher values"
It's a more accurate height indicator !
note : it's active/visible only when you build your lines/track
After :
-bypass the mountain ,inexpensive money , longer ride !
or
-cross the mountain with tunnel
very expensive money , short ride !

Choice is your ! ;)

Please check out Display positive and negative incline instead of incline and add a better description and/or title to the referred thread. Anything that helps to get the attention of the devs looking at a players problem is welcome.

Same goes out to everybody else :)

Edit: added to the referred thread cause it can be misunderstood (see below).

The original title of the post is
Terrain Elevation / Topographical Map?
and not about the inclination of the tracks
then use Topographical Map for reference .

In the absolute at the beginning of 1830 it is necessary to circumvent

After over time the locomotives are more powerful
this is no longer a problem, if the slope is excessive rising on the no-load return
on the contrary, a steep downhill descent full charge will speed up the train !
heavy load , more speed

... I see, you've misread the part after my link... what comes after the link reflects to the linked post, not the OP.

Nonetheless, different elevation can be displayed by contour lines (isoplèthe in French). The hard to see slope (or incline) is mentioned by rff1 which is the same as a change in elevation. Various words for the same concept.
