How to Permanently Assign Employees to Train Positions?
I need some help with assigning employees. I click on each of the four squares (for employees), and place my choices. Then I move on to the next train. After a while I move back (via the arrows) to view my trains which I had previously filled all the positions, and I find many blank squares?? How does one confirm and permanently assign employees to a train. I cannot find a menu button or choice to do this, and assumed it was automatic?
What am I failing to do or doing wrong?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated, as obviously employee presence increases income!
Thanks in advance!

I've seen this happen but could never "make" it happen. First thing is you can not just pick the character. This just shows them in the position to see if there are conflics. To the right of the characters name is an "assign" or I think a $. That is the button to put them in that train. Something I do differently than you is I don't go to the next train from the train window. I close and pick the next train from the train list. You would not think that would be a problem, but.

Thanks! Will try "assigning" in this manner, and then closing out, reopening the train menu using the L hotkey.

If you move on to the next train, you can *move* already assigned employees to that next train.

Maybe you are moving the already assigned staff to the later trains?

There is an icon you click to assign them, and I think it is different if they are currently unassigned or already assigned to another train.

When you are assigning employees you have to be careful to choose only between unassigned employees. If an employee is assigned it will show what route he is on. If you try to assign an employee that is already assigned, you can do so, but now his old position is vacant.

Good points! Greatly appreciated! Still having problems with this, suggest that after all positions for a particular train are filled, there be a "confirm" button. This would eliminate a lot of this ambiguity and frustration. Developers please consider this, as trains with filled positions generate much more income that those without! Just add a "confirm staff selections" menu selection or button.

I don't think a "confirm" button would help, it is just an extra step (that some people would miss) that doesn't change anything. If the step were skipped, people would wonder why all the assignments they made got reset. When staff appers on your train, they are assigned. If you assign them later to another train, they move to the later assignment. Confirming each step would not change that.

Are you still experiencing a bug where staff moves off or between trains even when not being reassigned, or was it reassignments that you were making?

The basics as I perceive them:

1. Clicking on the yellow icon on the right of an employee will toggle his assignment.

Clicking anywhere else on an employee will result in a preview, but you still have to do #1.

At the moment, I don't find the preview function very useful for train employees. Reason: it isn't integrated with the next/previous train function. When switching to another train, not only is the preview lost, but you can't just click on the employee again to restore said preview: the only way I found is to preview-click on a DIFFERENT* employee then back to the one you really want.

However, the preview is very useful for office employees. Reason: once you hire an office employee to a position that is currently filled, the employee who is being replaced simply disappears: you can't go back.

* This may be a minor bug, but I already made enough requests recently such as fixing the frequent train replacement exploit.

Other infos:
I work on the train staff page. Tab will take me to the next train. Shift+Tab will take me to the previous train. Or I can use the arrows.

I can also switch between employee types.
The pane in the lower right corner with 4 slots in a cross display staff on the train, relationship outcomes and/or the preview. It's also a SHORTCUT to switch to a different employee type. When I worked that out it was a game changer.
