Producing Oil

During Free Roam in the North, there's a task that says 1870 Produce 49 loads of oil. How can anyone do that since the game won't let you bring any oil to the city? I'm to 1875 and it still won't unlock the oil. What the hell am I missing?

To produce the oil you need to own the oil well. As for shipping it somewhere, you need a city that has a gasoline industry.

So if I buy an oil field, the oil and gasoline industry will unlock so I can build it?

Ah, I see what you mean by unlocking. No, it doesn't work that way. The industries unlock based on the population of the town you want to build it in. They show in order. I don't remember what population you need for the refinery (gasoline industry) but it's up there pretty high.

This is a bug in the Centennial era tasks. You need to build a Refinery, but you can't do that before 1900, even if you have a big enough city.

You might want to put a note on which version you are using and post it in the bug section.

That's what I was talking about. So, it's impossible for the time being and I spent several hours trying different combinations to get this task done. Great.
