Switching tracks
I want to have express trains with line 1 from Cheyenne to Denver and line 2 from Denver to Cheyenne. So train 1 goes C to D on line1 then switches over to line 2 on leaving Denver. It can then stay on L2 at Cheyenne (and then switch to L1 on leaving) or switch over to L1 on reaching Cheyenne. Train 2 can follow the same route.
I am having difficulty making the trains do this. Any ideas for where to put stops in please?

You mean a double track, each one way?

You need to place one way signals.

Check out my YouTube video: "introAether, signal tutorial" - this will show you exactly what you're after.

Good luck

You do that with signals and you can chose the platform the train uses. To change the platform, select a train and edit the path\station list. Then click on a station a new window open with the platforms and goods. The platform are 1-4 where 1 is closest to the station house. If you don't see the platform you want highlighted then the train doesn't have a path to it.

It's aslo where you chose the goods to be moved, normal, focus and restricted.

For the signal stuff watch the in game video.

The OP want to go forth on track1 and back on track2, this is not possible with "selec track" that will confine you on a single track for back and forth.
Neither you can place one way signals, because if you do, the train after have reached the station will pop up the warn: "station canno be reached", because a train cannot switch tracks while stop to a station.
So, what the op is asking is not possible IMO... the only way to do so is to switch the track right outside the station (by using signals).

Of course OP is possible. You simply place the switch from track A to track B after the signal. I dont understand what you're on about?

You have to build switches in front of each station for it to work. In the track build thing, rotate the view so the station is behind you, then make a switch from the right track to the left one, followed by a switch from the left to the right. After that place directional signals, and it should work.

If it's because you want to have two trains going that route tell one of them to use line 1 and the other line 2.

A better use would however be to use signals and a side track as has been pointed out
