Manual Pause Score Penalty
Drives me insane! I can see getting a bonus for not using pause, but not a penalty for using it :( Its a strategy tycoon game, pausing and studying my next move comes natural to me, trying to play as fast as i can to "beat the clock" just isnt enjoyable to me for this type of game, if it didnt have the manual pause option, i very much doubt i would have 300 hours playing at this point, i have tried several times to play without the manual pause, just didnt find it fun and always end up just restarting so i can enjoy it, but then there is always that .8 multiplier at scoring time, GRRRR!! Am i the only one who feels this way?

On normal I just bring up the track laying tool. Granted that doesn't help in the task and research pages though.

On Trainiac, you can be sneaky and position the screen such that when you enter the exit menu you can still see. To plan or whatever.

They really should black the screen out upon that menu.

Good luck if you're disabled, or have trouble reading, you're screwed.

People without disabilities will never understand how elements of game "design" force persons who aren't 100% to avoid their game simply because they can't physically play it like everyone else.

Then they patronize anyone who can't keep up by giving them "easy" mode and a pause that works completely bass ackwards. Forget being able to play the game like everyone else, the game design inherently prohibits it, alienating anyone who isn't "capable".

Then they wonder why they don't sell more copies...

It's like putting your grandma in a race car by herself and wondering why she can't win Le Mans.

Cheers..!

I'm old.
I always use the pause. It's either that or stop all the meds, drink at least 5 cups of coffee within an hour and keep 911 on everyspeed dial within arms reach with panic buttons hung from my neck.
:)
Wish I had a cartoon of that image. :)

I hope the devs will pay attention to this ... while it may not have been their intended demographic, leaving the slow play crowd out is a serious mis-step. Give 'em what they want, all it would cost is a little pride, and getting a score in Trainiac would still come with bragging rights for the compulsive score keepers.

I am mostly ok with the "Pause" feature. But I would like to see the pause automatically activated without penalty in the following situations: while checking out the locomotive depot and reading about the different engines, and assigning personnel. Reading about my engines I want to enjoy without time rush, and to assign perfect train teams is just tedious time killing therefore I don't use it much right now.

I'd prefer they simply slow the base speed *way* down, like 1/4 or 1/8th of what it is now and then add 2 or 3 additional stages of speed between the new lowest and current lowest speeds.

I kind of hate every hitting pause just because it breaks the flow of the game, on the other hand non-paused games are way to fast to enjoy as an RTS. By mid to late game you have to ignore 90% of the content because there's no time.

This is the reason I didn't buy Railroad 2. Why should my score be less because I pause in a single player game.

Because it is much harder to plan and build things with the game unpaused and still complete goals within the given frame of time.

It's a single player game who am I competing against?

Yourself or an arbitrary standard?

Many of the game achievements are based on your ranking - i.e. completing scenarios as president - so scoring does matter in single player.

Plus, there are leaderboards on the game too, so there is in fact some indirect competition, even if the game itself is strictly single player.

If you do not care about the achievements nor the leaderboards, then your scoring should not matter much, high or low.

You can choose the pause mode ( I usually do) and it all plays the same but you get some time to study the map and decide what is next . But it is kind of annoying that you can't reach the President rating on many of the levels because of the penalty.

It does matter. The problem is the game developers think otherwise. How am I to compete against myself if I can't play the same game every time? What I mean is one game I have to pause 10 min, the next 20, etc... This effects my final score based on how long I paused. Stupid game design. :)
