Intersections Please
This game is great, but for some reason, the only kind of intersection is a single Y... this is really unhelpful especially for joining stations to double-track lines.

this limitation means space required for intersections connecting to stations will often be larger than the station itself which is completely unrealistic.

it would also be really nice to be able to choose between bridge, tunnel or having a level crossing.

oh but then that would require more effort for building the tracks and it would be unfriendly to console players

@Qoojo thats why i refunded it.

not just because openttd has it, since thats a completely different system. but they use complex intersections all the time in real life, and it really shows that you can't in here.

i assume you know you can have parallel tracks. And then connect the tracks with two switches?

I make as many parallel tracks as i need and then connect the tracks as i need to allow trains to switch from track to track, either in the middle of the run or as the trains approach the stations.

Railroads often cross each other at grade at "diamonds".

...and at stations too:

great photos. Be nice if one could hard code it into the game.

We also need the ability to lay track that 1) does not have a start/end point attached to anything else and 2) the ability to turn off auto-connections when building tracks. Sometimes I want 2 pieces of track, side by side, that terminate at the same point. With the game auto-connecting when you get too end points too close together I can't really make my tracks look nice.

Hi,
in my opinion it's a MUST to have x-crossing lines. Even the old train empires centuries ago where able to build x-crossing lines. Hurry up programmers, just do your work!

Greetings and ... hopefuly thanks for the patch.

@Yehoodi ever heard of transport tycoon deluxe?

like i said, all these things are technically possible with ample space and money. but thats just not how the game works.

This isn't TTD, and I would be highly surprised if such complicated track laying is ever implemented. If you are looking for a TTD successor then this isn't that game. This is more along the vein of Railroad.

Except that a diamond junction is in one of the campaigns! Why can't we build it?

I'm playing part 4 of the base campaign at the moment, the civil war scenario... and there seem to be tracks crossing each other in the pre-existing segments, yet I still can't place anything like that myself. I wonder if the developers realized what an enormous middle finger they were giving their players by first going "You can't do this, sorry! Too convenient!" in the game mechanics, then placing that same feature in their maps and going "Cool, huh?" =.=;

This thread is old. Patch 1.4 updated track laying including adding X-crossings:
https://steamcommunity.com/games/503940/announcements/detail/1652139417430885157

Try the in-game Tips&Tricks under the Track Construction section for illustrations of these features.

If you want to merge all lines into 1 like the AI do when exiting a station, you can approximate that, but the efficiency will always be limited. In the last patch we got signal-controlled stations/warehouses, those are a much better solution wherever there is room.

PS. I couldn't know exactly which crossing you were referring to without a screenshot.

Ah, my mistake; I'd missed that particular tips segment.
I do wonder why the method for placing a crossing is to draw a bridge, then pull it down; wouldn't it make more sense for track-over-track planning to draw a crossing by default, with the option to make a bridge by dragging it up?

Still, thanks for the pointers. This will definitely come in handy in the future.^^
