Optisch finde ich nämlich Mashinky wesentlich ansprechender. Inhaltlich punktet RE. 2 GB vs 7 GB.
Mashinky is more like a Boardgame and in Early Access .
so Mashinky is Complex but not packed with tons of content @ the moment.
Railway Empire is a fun game for Arcade and i would say.
Buy Mashinky on Steam and Railway Empire from a Keyseller so you have both games for the same price.. and you could refund mashinky if you don*t like it
Try both titles and request a refund from Steam for which ever falls short.
Do you have any sources you can provide that reflect this?
I personally own the game and find it far from being a "model train set", but rather close to what Sid's Railway Tycoon was/is. Mind you, it's still in development with a lot of things that could change between now and when it is fully released. Only time will tell.
I do not. When I first looked into RE, I heard about Mashinky. When I looked at it, a few people summarized it as what I mentioned (maybe in reviews?), so I did not really look into it any further.
For $20US it's worth checking out at least and refund if not satisfied. Considering it's a 1 man show, i was presently surprised how far it's come in only 4 years. It definately doesn't try to pretend its' something that its' not and abuse the wallet while doing so.
Mashinky, by far.
Can play on a huge map. Can progress through all the eras, technological research is not limited to a single era split into 20 year periods. This alone makes it worth it.
The graphics are just as good as this one, you can switch between the graphics modes as you wish. The trains are much more realistic, slow down uphill, etc.... The game time progresses much better, and calendar doesn't flip days as if it's a fan at high speed.
This game is built for the console, hence the $49.99 price, small maps, and limited eras (can't progress from one era to another on the same map), as consoles can't handle it. RE is very much a console arcade game.
Mashinky is being built for PC, and already has more options than RE. Mashinky is a strategy, simulation game. Your actions affect industry and town growth / development.
It's all a matter of personal perspective. Try them both and decide which one you like best.
One Awesome-train for Greybriar!
I think it would appeal more to someone who wanted a more model train / simulation-heavy type experience, rather than an entertaining game.
Both of them have their limitations. Mashinky has no AI players and I don't think they intend to have them, while the AI players in Railroad Empires are a bit limited but do make the map a bit livelier and provide a /sense/ of competition if nothing else.
I believe Mashinky lets you progress through all the eras it has during one session, while Railroad Empires just isn't balanced for that. I think you can pretty much 'beat' any map within 10 game years (as in most lines being developed and making more money than you can spend), so there wouldn't be much point to progressing through eras on one map unless the time scale / economic growth level were adjusted greatly.
I think Mashinky's going to be in development for years yet, so of course it isn't developed as much Railroad Empires is. I'm unsure what plans the developer has to expand RE after release. Mashinky is cheaper, but for me my time / energy is a more precious resource than 20$ so I'm opting for RE right now as the experience it offers right now is just better.
