Trains blocking each other
Hi Community & Devs,

I wish I had taken a screenshot, but I forgot.
Yesterday I was playing the France DLC when I noticed a decent amount of my trains suddenly stopped moving.
Upon closer examination, I found that two trains got stuck on the same platform track at a Maintenance Station.
As I was using the Track laying mode which requires directional switches, and the Maintenance Station has automatic switch control, this should not have happened?

Has anyone else had the same or a similar experience?

My point is, that if the signalling AI was working properly, the trains should not have been able to get stuck on a platform in the station.

Auto-signalling is far from perfect. I played a bit in Sandbox v1.9 and it looks it has the same flaws as in version 1.7.

1) There is no load balancing of trains for station with auto-signalling (in general for alternative routes, tracks).
2) Game always chooses the shortest path for train route, that path is 'fixed' (although I saw same exception here like train being broke could alter the route of other train).

Bottom line:
Manual track selection + adequate signals placement is still optimal solution, especially for busy large stations or hubs.

The big problem with signal-controlled stations is that all incoming trains are directed to platform 1 by default. Any new train from such a station also appears on platform 1 and so may have to wait for some time for that platform to be clear.

You would think it'd be easy for them to implement checks for the trains waiting to see if there are any open platforms.

I certainly have thought that. This topic has been on since EA. I personally spent a lot of time discussing it here. I'm convinced that the devs are convinced it will never happen in this game, but they have hinted it would be part of a possible RE2.

I had the problem also, the easiest solution is to copy one of the trains and than remove it. I suppose you have a station with 2 tracks, make it 4. Are you sure that no other train is switching tracks along the way, where tracks from different directions come together?
