Spec Ops The Line crashing at startup FIX
Two steps worked for me.

1. Download and install PhysX from nvidia, ensuring you get the correct one for your OS (even if you are not using a Nvidia card)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.12.1031-driver.html

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.12.0613-driver.html

2. Right click on your game in Steam > properties > local files > verify integrity of game cache and wait for it to finish. it will say all files are fine but then it will download and install a file anyway (takes about a second)

Now your game should be fine if you had the same issue.

This worked on Windows 8 64-bit (legit) and a HD7770

I hope this helps you

I tried this (Win8, Radeon 6600/6700M) and it worked like a charm! Thank you so much!

When I click play to launch "Spec Ops: The Line" on steam the game tries to load and then my PC crashes and restarts. I did buy the game through Humble Bundle 7/15/2014

My Specs
OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64
CPU: AMD FX
RAM: 8 GB
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series

is there anything i can do

Yea already had PhysX 9.13.1220 before ever installing Spec Ops, still crashes on launch.

@grenadeh try adding '-windowed' to the launch options. I had PhysX installed too - it was just starting the game at a weird resolution

I click play and the after 'installing' another message comes up saying 'The Steam servers are too busy to handle your request for spec opsthe line Error code (53).

How do you check to see what the start up resolution is?

Hello.

My fix was to switch the installation repertory to my main Hard Drive (I installed it to an other one in the first place.).

This + installing the latest physx from nvdia fixed it for me.

I don't know why Steam Forums don't have an upvote option, but by the power of Greyskull, I actually had to do the Verify integrity thing, and it indeed started downloading a file, and when I ran the game, Steam had a popup with "Completing installation... %", and boom, game working fine again.

I don't know what kind of sorcery made the game behave like this (I play it once a week), but thank you so much for the recommendation.

Try the free "Flawless Widescreen" program. Find the game and play it :) good luck

I did the verify integrity of game cache, and it fixed my problem. Many thanks!
