sad...black screen right after launch
Hi,
I bought the game, installed it, then hit "play". Ever since, I only have the sound, but no image at all. I know I'm on the menu but the screen displays nothing.
My pc has 8go RAM, Geforce GTX680, and I tried on different screens. All my drivers are up to date. Any other Steam game I have works just fine, and some require more ressources than SpecOps and work perfectly
Any thoughts?
thanks

What about multiple monitors? I remember that screwing one of my games up at one point. Someone suggested disabling my second monitor, and I went into my display adapter settings and sure enough, there was a second monitor listed for my card... funny thing is, I have never had a second monitor hooked up to any of my PCs!

that's weird because all of my other games work perfectly. I checked my graphix card for any sign of a ghost monitor, but nothing.

You might have to dig a little deeper then... Assuming you've done the usual reverify cache, manually installed the support stuff like DX, VCR, etc...

http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Spec_Ops:_The_Line

Check the fixes at that link. You might have to try one or more of them. You have to decrypt the .ini file with the video config stuff. You could try the skip intro movie fix to make troubleshooting easier too. Then, I'd dig into the .ini file to see if there are any settings in there that look completely "off" for your system, if it's trying to start up in a resolution completely foreign to your system settings, you could edit those to match your system's.

There are also other fixes at that link that might not seem to apply to your setup, but you can still try them. Particularly the crash on launch ones. I know yours isn't crashing apparently, but sometimes similar fixes can help other problems.

Do you hear sounds while it black screen? if so way I fixed it was alt + enter go in window mode then edited resolution settings.
Supreme-Loaf Apr 15, 2014 @ 6:09am
yes, i hear the sound as if i was on the start menu. As soon as I start it, i still get the same message from my monitor "not optimum mode. best settings 1920x1080 60HZ" , and this is exactly what my settings are. I tried to go in the settings after doing ALT TAB but nothing changes whatever I do. I changed the resolution many times, and still prob persists. ;(
And I say again, I run many games on steam with same settings

Did you try decrypting the .ini file with the video settings in it and setting it to your monitor's resolution?
Supreme-Loaf Apr 15, 2014 @ 12:12pm
which one is it? I see a lot of INI files but all in chinese
EbonHawk Apr 15, 2014 @ 9:29pm
You didn't follow the instructions if they're in Chinese then. You have to decrypt the files first. The .ini files are encrypted. At the page I linked to, there are two files mentioned, and a decrypter:

SREngine.ini
SRInput.ini

They are the only two I've ever edited. Create you a temporary folder somewhere, download the decrypter (at the link) and extract that .zip (3 files) into the temporary folder you created. Drag and drop the two .ini files one at a time onto the file that has Decrypt in the name and it will automatically replace the file and resave it in unencrypted form so you can edit it with a text editor like Notepad++. (Notepad should work as well.) Once you figure out which settings you need to change (if any), then just save the file(s) and drag and drop them one at a time onto the filename that has Encrypt in the name and it will automatically save them back in encrypted format that the game recognizes.

Now, copy/rename your original files in the Documents directory so you can always retrieve them later if you need to. You can move them somewhere if you want. Now, copy/move the newly edited files into the Documents directory to replace the ones you made backups/moved.

had the same issue today, i just verify integrity of game cache in the properties it downloaded a 7mb update and its now working
Here is the simplest solution, it's also on the PcGamingWiki.

Add -windowed as a launch parameter in steam, start the game, set resolution to native.

Close game, remove launch paramter, restart game, go into options > graphics > full screen yes.

Done.

Have a good one.
