I still hope for the day the next game comes, namely SK7, I don't want another spinoff/crossover
Hell, I'd take a Shinovi Versus remaster at this point
It's our Half-Life 3, but even worse because we technically "got" it but only in Japan in a gatcha.
What do you mean? iirc New Link was it's own story with crossover characters and stuff
Please don't tell me they ended up adapting the 7EVEN story there or something
The thing is that previous post made it look like SK7 was made at some point or another in the japan exclusive gacha game SK New Link. I know they introduced new original characters like Fubuki and Toki, but if they somehow adapted the storyline that was meant for SK7 into New Link, that's what I don't know.
And honestly, that would really suck for me
Yeah and its quite likely because of the censorship Sony backlash and Kenichiro Takaki leaving that we'll never see another Senran Kagura game, so likely dead IP. IDK if Honey Parade games even exists anymore within Marvelous, so the staff that worked on previous games has also likely departed or been moved into other projects. As for direction of Marvelous itself, seems like they've moved on to new projects and old flagship titles like Rune Factory and Story of Seasons. And all of them are... poorly received apparently, that and their lineup of published games + killing their arcade game Wacca, I'm not confident in that company as of late.
There is also the market competition too. Senran Kagura games came from an era before the open world and beat-em-up gacha games like Genshin, Wuthering Waves, Honkai Impact 3rd, etc. came out. With these on the scene and dominating market share and an entire generation of gamers used to those titles, IMO its unlikely that Marvelous wants to make a new game to compete with them. I mean these games even cater to the whole ecchi side of things, although to a significantly lesser degree.
As for attitude on censorship or ecchi titles in general, a lot of the traditional larger JP game companies got cold feet after that Sony fiasco. So such games tend to just stay in JP. As far as I can see these days, the vast majority of ecchi games with far reach (or those that encourage it) are gacha games, mobile games, or indie projects.
I guess the silver lining is that Kenichiro Takaki went on to work for CyGames and helped bring us Granblue Fantasy Relink. Which, he only was "Director of Console Game Development" or something like that and joined CyGames earlier on in Relink's development, but we don't know how much influence he had. Still, Relink was fantastic from a gameplay perspective so I'm very much looking forward to future entries in that series and from CyGames in general.
If you want to check out more recent games that Takaki worked on, There is of course Granblue Fantasy: Relink as mentioned, and there is the obscure Little Noah: Scion of Paradise (both are on Steam). Also according to Wikipedia, he is producing & directing the upcoming projects at CyGames "Project Awakening" and "Project GAMM".
I don't know how Senran Kagura 7EVEN would be competing directly against these titles (tho it kinda would compete with Honkai Impact), I think there are enough differences to separate them, mainly the fact that this isn't a gacha game and it's not open world.
As for the ecchi aspect, I agree, I'm afraid even if Sony's policies are more "relaxed" now compared to 2019, and the game were to release in PS5, we still wouldn't get the intended vision.
Even if it's the last thing we see of the franchise, I just want some closure to move on.
