If you want to play the series for the story, play Burst Re:Newal, then Shinovi Versus, Estival Versus and Peach Beach Splash. I don't remember where Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson stands in the lore though, I think it's after Burst but in the main (non-Versus) timeline.
Else, I'd recommend playing the games in their release order (except PBS which isn't really necessary), especially since the character roster and graphics evolved with each new release.
Sorry for the long (and possibly confused/confusing) reply, I'm tired and haven't played the games enough myself to know in what order to play them ^_^'
Thanks again.
there are a few things that EV has over it:
-multiplayer
-shinobi heart missions (which imo are slightly better than the free missions because of the dialogue between the girls)
-slightly more characters
other than that, burst;re has better boss battles, more responsive guarding and animation cancelling, even better dressing room features (i.e. lingerie being named instead of being designated "pattern ___")
playing senran for the story is a cute reason, but dont expect anything deep
in which case, shinovi versus would follow from burst;re
Estival even without the dlc has more stages (longer too), more playable characters, almost the same graphics (renewal may have some better effects), similar gameplay but due to the amount of situations you can have (I mean the stages and fights) it ends up being far more enjoyable.
The story imho is best experienced in order with Shinovi and then Estival, because what you get from the other games imho is not worth it from the story stand point alone even though I must admit that I don't recall the amount of detail that you get from Shinovi regarding the renewal events, it may be less than I remember. Some may argue that Estival doesn't have much story wise and they are right but it has something it gives you a glimpse of the big threat ahead and closes some threads with some characters.
Shinovi and Estival have the "girl's heart" story for each character which renewal lacks, replacing them with bland and generic free missions.
Bon Appetit is worth it if you like rhythm games and want some inconsequential stories on the level of "girl's heart", however it's kind of mediocre because the song selection is overall very generic outside of the 6 ones with lyrics (the 4 school leaders and 2 "special" characters).
PBS is... not worth it at all imho. The story is something that doesn't add pretty much anything and the gameplay is way less fun than what it looks like in videos.
Will play through that then get estival and possibly at some point will get re burst again when its cheaper or is on sale.
Will most likely skip bon appetit and PBS, not really my kind of games.
Again, thanks for all the replies and advice!
