Hidden or unexplained mechanics?
I have been playing this games for hours and looking thru this discussions I learned you could "taunt" (as the AI-controlled enemy girls can do) by pressing the Lock-On button. I wonder if there are other mechanics or stuff left in the game, stuff that the game itself nor its loading screens tips say nothing about.

I have noticed that shinovi companions/allies (like in missions where you have one or more allies, i.e. the Mikagura Sisters missions) once they are downed or defeated, they have a "HELP!" text next to their image, alluding they can be revived. I am wrong here or there's an actual mechanic for this?

Another "hidden" mechanic I discovered was the interaction with the girls in the dressing room.

dressing room controls are notorious for having controls that arent described. reviving AI partners is default to B-button (dash) iirc, though its never stated, even in the loading screen tips.

maybe one of the most infuriating ones is for defense. unlike animation cancelling (which has a detailed guide in the hub). most knowledge on the defense stat comes mostly from observation and experimentation.

There's a few hidden mechanics. Some girls have dash attacks, buffs, or special jump attacks that only occur when you're close to the ground. Animation cancels of various types work for various attacks, with varying results between characters. It takes experimentation to learn them all, which I sort-of like; on one hand it does promote learning a character inside-and-out, on the other hand it tends to sway players to stick with the easier characters because the secret mechanics are ill-explained.

Here's a useful one that works for all characters; when using Ninja Scroll attacks, more powerful attacks override weaker ones. So if an enemy catches you in a 1-scroll attack, immediately activate a 2- or 5- scroll attack to break free.

Super interesting info, I actually noticed sometimes some Ninja Arts bested other Ninja Arts but never understood why or how. Regarding the dash attacks, I learned at Shinovi Versus some fast -oriented characters like Imu or Yomu tended to damage while dashing.

In the other hand, I have seen various discussion about something called "cancel animations" or "animation cancelling" or something like that. I wonder what that could mean?
See that linked guide, it explains it. In short, you cancel the animation of your character during some attack or movement so you can attack or move faster. Less recovery / cooldown between attacks. Works wonders on a lot of characters and unlocks entire plotheras of new kinds of combos.
