Favorite Faction/School and why!
Hanzo, Gessan, Hebijo, Crimson Squad etc. What is your favorite group of characters across the franchise?
I'm leaning toward Homura's Crimson Squad, although I'm watching a walkthrough of Shinovi Versus so that could change.
On a side note I checked out the Wikia of Senran Kagura and saw there's a poll of people's favorite Faction/School (Link: http://senrankagura.wikia.com/wiki/Kagurapedia ) and I find it interesting that Gesson and Homura's Squad are the most prefered. Why do you think that is?

Crimson Squad for me because Hikage.

As for why Gessen and Crimson are more popular is probably due to a number of reasons.

For Gessen, Yumi is a big favorite in Japan due to her personality and background. She easily took and dominated the 1st Place in both Shinovi and Estival character polls. (http://senrankagura.wikia.com/wiki/Senran_Kagura_Character_Popularity_Polls)

For Crimson, it's likely due to the fact that their crew is so gosh darn likable and has a ton of character development. Mirai was 1st Place in the first popularity poll since y'know a flat character in a game about busty girls is going to be liked if the flat one hates the busty ones. And I find Hikage is one of the best written characters of the game. Other than them, Haruka gives everyone the sadism they want to see/do.

Not particularly surprised by either result, even with Yumi not being very popular in the west. The Gessen girls really only get dragged down by her and her (largely unwarranted) newfound MC-like importance - other than that, they're all good, lovable girls - hell, Yozakura actually wanting to have some fun for once is easily one of the highlights of the first half of EV. They're more pure, whereas it's easier to empathize with the Crimsons, who've had two good games worth of development (SK1 and SK2) on top of taking the spotlight in SV.

I'm really not sure how the Mikagura sisters and the Hebijo girls are supposed to compete at this point. The Hanzo girls I can maybe understand, but even they, despite their presence in SK1 and SK2, don't have the charm of the other two groups overall, and it's only going to get worse if what I've heard about their story in PBS being a huge disappointment is true.

I actually like the misfits of Hebijo, whereas Gessen would be my least favorite.
Batosaichigo 28/mar./2017 às 7:11
I'd say Crimson Squad because my top 3 characters are there (Yomi, Hikage and Homura) and I know that with them i'll have a good laugh a moment or another (like with the train in SK2, those who have played it will know). I also like the fact that with them it's not just about justice or evil but more about following the path they have chosen no matter what could be in their way or what other people could think of them.

If I had to say which group I like the least I'd say Gessen, cause they're too serious and too centered on justice for my tastes. Also, I find least interesting when it comes to the background cause the five are similar. I think I will never understand how Yumi can be so popular in Japan...

Seconded. I like Hebijo the most because characters there feel more "alive" and kinda have family aura around them, which i cant say for other schools - they feels like roommates to each other at best.

Hanzo, closely followed by Gessen (mainly thanks to Yozakura).

I mean, Hebijo has two sets of actual sisters, and Miyabi and Imu knew each other since early childhood.

If they didn't give off that family vibe, I'd be worried. :P
I quite liked how they all got along nicely in their ending in Shinovi despite trying to kill each other in the last chapter.

TL;DR - Hebijo > Hanzo > Crimson >>>>>>> Gessen.

:sohandsome: :sincerelyyours: :cuteshutin: :andm: :shootfirst:
Hebijo had, hands down, the best story in SV. If not for Hebijo, I may have not stayed to enjoy Bon Apetite and now Estival (and hopefully more to come). I was expecting nothing but fanservice, and their story pleasantly surprised me. And since it was my first entry to the game, it left the strongest impression. Miyabi is #1 girl for me which probably plays some role in this placement as well. And then there's Ryona who has in my opinion the craziest and most amuzing side-stories I still can't believe she boiled herself in BA . Imu and Murasaki are alright. I wish Imu played bigger role in some events and not blend in so much, but oh well. EV kinda gave her some spotlight, so...
And I don't hate Ryobi as much as I thought I would at the beginning. She's not my type of character, but she did grow on me like her boobs on her ninja art. And she has nice chemistry with Ryona. And I do like her even better after Estival. Wish she became Kagura, that would be fun.
They are just overall well-developed as a group and while I like some of them more than others, I can't see it working without either of them.

:hanzopride: Hanzo... you know... exists.
I don't care much about them as a school. But none of the characters bothers me. I like Ikaruga and Yagyu. Ikaruga's costume is probably the best looking in this game (well, after Hikage), but her personality is kinda meh. Yagyu is opposite - she gets her "meh" from me for her design, but her story and personality are very loveable. I was ready to hate Hibari when I first saw the roster for this game, but then, after her story, she, surprisingly, doesn't annoy me at all. :buttstomp:
Katsuragi and Asuka are... pretty much just there. I don't have a strong opinion on either of them. Which fits into my overall opinion of Hanzo. Basically, they are like middle of the road. I like them more than not, but they are nowhere near the top for me.

:trainharder: Crimson Squad is a very mixed bag for me. I absolutely love Hikage. Actually, if not for Hikage, I would've never heard about this game to begin with. I just casually bought SK DLC for Dead or Alive, Mila is my main and she got Hikage's cosutme which I liked so much that I actually went and searched the game it came from xD So yeah. That happened. Thanks you, Hikage. And of course it doesn't hurt that she is one of (if not THE) coolest characters in this game in terms of looks, moves and personality.
Mirai may as well be the first character of her type that I enjoy. Her boob fixation is not as annoying as it usually is and other than that she's just a nice person. I like her. I'd love to be her friend irl.
Homura and Yomi can be hit or miss. They have their moments, but generally speaking just don't click with me.
And Haruka - I hate with passion. I don't know if she or Shiki is my least favorite character in this game, but they are both down there.
Plus they had no story in SV (or if they did - I can't remember it for the life of me), so for me they keep being just... background characters. An interesting bunch of background characters, but background nontheless.

:icecold: Gessen though... I apologize to all of Gessen fans out there. I don't know why, but I really... REALLY hate them.
Ok, maybe that's not true. But they are so-so-sooooo dull.
Let's start with the elephant in the room. Yumi. She is a Japanese eye-candy. I understand it. I'm only surprised she's not a poster-girl for this game. But she is way too two-dimensional. She has no character past that "I'm your generic Japanese waifu". Like, you know, for example, Yukiko Amagi from Persona 4? She was the same, but she was so well-developed, had different sides to her personality, different quirks and emotions. And even then she was one of my least favorite Persona waifus. Yumi has none of that, therefore she's even worse. I understand why she exists. Just like I understand why Shiki exists for example. They basically represent opposite cultures. But I still can't make myself care about them. But hey, at least Yumi IS cute, I'll give her that. Sometimes I wish it was enough, but it isn't.
Yozakura and Murakumo are the closest to being alright, but... while I did find Murakumo's mask thing amuzing at first, it kinda annoys me that it's basically her only thing and everything revolves around it. Every story with her is either someone taking away her mask or... wait, no, there is no "or". That's it. I just can't...
Yozakura is nice, but she kinda blends in, doing and saying nothing memorable. And I hate it because I generally like this type of characters. Her positive attitude was like a breath of fresh air at the beginning of EV, but... then she kinda once again moved to background never to show up again. She's like Imu of Gessen, except has even less screen time :whyioughtta:
Minory annoys me to death. There's nothing more to it. And while I did enjoy her story in SV and I get why she acts the way she does, it still annoys me.
Shiki's only positive is her music theme. Love it. Otherwise she's one of my most despised archetypes in anime. The only thing that could make her worse is if she was a ganguro.

Gessen is the new protagonist school. Yumi just dominated in SV-EV-PBS (The new PS4 game in 2017).
Hanzo is the old 3ds protagonist. Unfortunately, they don't get love in the new Playstation series :steamsalty:

If you check out the Character Popularity Polls http://senrankagura.wikia.com/wiki/Senran_Kagura_Character_Popularity_Polls , Ikaruga is the only one still popular in Hanzo.

Definitely Hebijo. A big part of it is from having characters with the most unwavering conviction. Overall very well rounded with interesting stories and chemistry while the other academies are a mixed bag of loveable awesome to downright irritating, one-note personalities.

I especially like Miyabi a lot. Though she may have softened a little in EV, her plotline in the campaign is simple but very effective. It breaks what we know of her from SV and with Imu's help, re-established her into a stronger character.

I don't have a fovorite yet, i'm still bouncing back forth with fav character lol. This is my first game and only just about to wrap up the main story. Will get a better idea when I play the extra missions of the characters.

I can say that so far I agree with Gessen being the worst (only like Shiki, Yumi isn't bad either). Crimson & Hebijo are tied for the top sport for me at the moment. Both have a nice cast with maybe just 1 meh member each.

Hey, Iron Monkey If you're interested there's a Walkthrough of Shinovi Versus by KKWX this link "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPT-y8mh8ek&list=PLbJpcjGiyPskvLdsBbJhsfn1_c_YpKt_3&index=1" will take you to part 1 that starts with the Hanzo faction the guy also covers the side stories of each of the heroines of each school, so If you're not interested in going through the previous game you can watch it.

But really, it's a wonder how much more interesting a story can get when you change from the formula the other stories used. Especially when the final chapter isn't the cliche showdown between each team's counterparts.

But anyway I say one major mark against Gessen is the use of "you totally kicked their ass in gameplay but story says you didn't" that happened in Hanzo's first encounter against them in the Hanzo story.

It was very easy to see coming even by SK's standards, it ended up being overly melodramatic and edgy (way too edgy even compared to the 3DS games) and it's ultimately the least canon one of them all. There's basically nothing to it besides Miyabi having one good moment not long before the betrayal. That's not to say that the other arcs were much better, hugely formulaic as they were, but at least they brought something other than structure to the table, especially in the case of the Crimsons.

It's minimal at best, and it's more of a negative mark towards Hanzo's story (the absolute worst in the game) than towards the Gessen group as a whole, particularly given the insane difference between the Gessen group in the Hanzo story and the Gessen group in their own story.
