Fun! aircraft choices for each mission
Looking to play through the game again but I'm wanting to make it more fun. So I thought I'd pick the most thematic aircraft for each mission (not the most efficient, the one that fits the story best).
For instance the mission 5 (High Card), any of the scrap jets would make the most sense and it's a plane I wouldn't fly otherwise.
What's peoples recommendations for each mission including DLC for maximum story and fun points?

pick an aircraft right for you, not the mission, you can pick a multiple role jet or a ground attack/air-to-air combat aircraft, but whatevers right for you and makes you comfortable you should use 100 percent of the time, except the A-10

What's wrong with A-10? Hugin and Munin were squealing like pigs at its mighty BRRRRRR.

Again, not looking just to play with favourites. I just think it would be fun to do a playthrough with a thematic plane for each mission ending with getting the strike Wyvern out for the finally.

F-15C. It's old enough to be in a scrapyard and it fits in with Strider later. Also PLSLs are good.

I agree with those folks telling you to pick a plane that's best for you rather than the mission. My Favorite strangereal planes are the X-02S with the EML as the SPW and the ADF-11F equipped with the UAV Special weapon. I like the Wyvern for its maneuverability and all-around coolness and the fact that it's a good jack of all trades, and the Raven because it's the only plane in the game that you can equip with UAVs. I like to send each UAV after a single target and then engage a third with missiles. Very effective when you need to engage and destroy a lot of targets in a short amount of time. The ADFX-01 Morgan with the MPBM, or multi-purpose burst missile, is also effective in combating a lot of targets in a short amount of time if they are ground targets that have clustered together. As far as my choice of a real-world favorite, I would probably go with the F-22 for A2A, SU-34 for A2G and the F-18E for an all-around jet.

Bit of a necro here, but thanks for sharing. I'm unsubscribing from this, and I guess I didn't phrase the question right, because people seem to have mistaken my request for one about most optimal.
What I was looking for was nice progression on vehicles to tie in with plot (set a challenge, screw around with things outside my comfort zone etc). I'm not a massive plane geek, or a Strangereel devote, so the history flies right over my head. so in the end I used the planes mentioned from the Reddit threads about the life of Trigger's co-pilot (The "triggers backseat is a 444channer" series if anyone remembers them). Last few missions Sucked, but doing the rest was pretty fun.
Anyway, thanks yall for being helpful, happy flying.

The thread creator may have unsubscribed, but I'd like to share a list of what planes to use on each mission to make the run more fun and fit the story.

Mission 1 & 2 (Operations Deer Horn & Eastern Wind) - Start off with the good ol' F-16C. It's the very first plane you get when starting an entire brand new game, only makes sense to use it for these two missions.

Mission 3 (Operation Dual Wielder) - F-14D. Yeah kinda bland and it's one of the next choices on the tree from the F-16, but I like to think Trigger earned a bit of an upgrade from the previous two missions from showing his skills, and the F-14D has good enough AA special weps to deal with anything in this mission. Now that the first three missions are done, let's get into something a bit more interesting....

Mission 4 (Operation Lighthouse Keeper) - For this mission, we are gonna slap ourselves right into.... the F-35C. Hear me out. If Osea is putting their hopes of rescuing the former president on an up-and-coming hotshot of a pilot, they're gonna put em in something a bit more than the regular aircraft you'll see in the skies. The F-35 is a perfect fit because it's considered a very agile stealth aircraft. Couple that with an armament such as 8AGMs or 4AAMs and nothing could go wrong with this mission!...... Right? Awwww Fu-

Mission 5 (Operation High Card) - Well, you shot down the craft carrying Harling and are now in it with some rather... interesting individuals. Because of that, the only thing they're sending you up with in the skies with is a MiG21, Machine Gun Pods, and a dream. Oh, the missiles? Yeah, those are just empty props to make you look more dangerous, they don't actually work and we don't want you "accidentally" shooting another friendly out of the sky right now. (Basically, MiG21 guns and mgp only, no plane upgrades either)

Mission 6 (Operation One Pair) - Seems like even with shoddy equipment, you still managed to be a murderer! This time you're going up in an A-10, we still don't trust you using any sort of air-to-air missile weaponry quite yet, but you will be given the weapons necessary to soften up the ground units. (A-10, Restricted to Air-to-Ground SPW and Guns)

Mission 7 - 10 (Operations Two Pairs, Three of a Kind, Flush & Full House) - You're being given the ability to use standard anti-air weaponry back, so be more useful up in the sky as a target. These missions you'll be using the Mirage 2000. This is the penal unit, we don't get too fancy of planes to use, but the Mirage is capable for each of these missions.

....This is where thing's stop being interesting unfortunately unless you want to start going off from "fitting the story". If you want to a plane that fits the story best from here, then the F15-E from Mission 11 up to Mission 18 (and the DLC Missions) is what you're gonna be flying. Strider squadron seems to be a matching unit, so it's only fair that you use the same plane they do. You just get to be a little quirky with the three strikes on your tail.

Missions 19 & 20 - The F-22. We really bringing callbacks to AC04 with this one. I'm only saying it's fitting to the story because of the game's cover art so it's only appropriate to finish off the game using this iconic plane.

That's my take on it if anyone wanted something to fit the story and be a little fun.
