Where should I start this saga?

Assault Horizon? What Assault Horizon? You mean Assault Horizon legacy, the nice remake of the classic Ace Combat 2, what a nice game that is! In all fairness, Assault Horizon Legacy is a -fantastic- game. So there is value in speaking the name, provided there's a third noun attached.

Probably THE Assault Horizon, not the Legacy one (because seriously, I never played that title - it's on a different platform and from what I saw it's like AC2 but with better graphics). That one's the one some people called "the black sheep of the franchise", and the only Ace Combat game that can also be played on PC like 7.

Ahoy matey, it's me, captain Torrrress, and I'm here to tell that you can emulate the sea devil out of all titles in the franchise using Retroarch, PCSX2, PPSSPP and Xenia and you can even do it legally by dumping discs (though I don't consider yarrring games that are not sold to be in any way wrong).

PS Assault Horizon Legacy is literally AC2 remake, and it's really good. Though I still prefer the original 2.

I don't think it's very different. I guess it has high g turns? But so does 7 and a lot of people started with 7 and seem to be doing okay.

I still choose the holy trinity that is from PS2. Good ole' days. Makes me reminded of the past that how I fail some missions for eternity just because I lacked English knowledge. I think what he meant is that the texture bug on the ground when you play AC6 on Xenia. Triangle hollows. I've tried it one day and now I can't after devs of Xenia released an updated version of it and CTDed upon loading the game.

Not so worse than textures glitching out from afar in emulated AC5 and ACZ via PCSX2 because of misconfigured graphics settings.

Yeah, about Ass Horizon.

I saw the trailer for it, having never played a single game in the series before, and got so pumped that I went out and bought 4, 5 and Zero (for like two dollars total because GameStop was purging the hell out of their PS2 inventory, lol) because I couldn't wait, and loved them all.

Then the playable demo for Ass Horizon came out and after playing it, I lolno'd so hard.

I've still never played it, lol.

I started in PSP, it was Skies of Deception back then and the other series of Ace Combat which is also playable in PSP. Then from there, thats where I got hooked from this amazing game. I jumped straight to AC7. and it IS WORTH ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!! <3 Hope I helped ya bud. :ac7iradio:

ohh man!!! it feels nostalgic seeing someone also break their psp out of rage. we are in the same boat dude! thats where I became a mechanic and fixed my psp all by myself. Good days isnt it?? hahahaha

It's not about gameplay core, and more about mission design philosophy. AC6 has huge areas with multiple targets and layered operations, which is great, but all other AC games are more tightly designed and more compact. It feels really different to play as a result.

As for triangles - when you emulate AC6 on Xenia, you get triangular holes all over the terrain mesh :D

But it doesn't. Having a big map or a small one doesn't change the core gameplay. I mean, AC7 has plenty of big maps with lots of targets, and it's not like anyone's mind was blown the first time they played Long Day. For that matter, most of AC4 is big maps with a lot of targets, and you said that was a good place to start earlier.

I saved money and bought a new one, I have it to this day lol I remember my analog was bad and I died because I couldn't evade a missile. I was so angry and kept hitting it on the ground until it broke completely. Then I took a hammer and a screw driver to finish the job.

The PSP is my best loved hand held console. I will never get rid of mine, no matter how good emulation gets.

How the plane flies and shoots is called core mechanics. How the game situations are composed, spread in time and paced, and how the playable areas are built is core gameplay. The two elements compose overall gameplay experience. While core mechanics of AC6 are identical to most AC games, core gameplay is significantly different. If you don't see or understand it - you are delusional.
