Man, that is such a BS statement. Have you ever even played these games? I used to play AC5 and AC0 religiously as a teenager. I don't even own a PS5. All three of these games need remastering at least.
Well it isn't. AC7 is, plot-wise, related to AC4, AC5 and AC0. AC6 takes place in the third hemisphere of continents. AC1-3 all take place in the future. AC: Assault Horizon is its own pile of crap that takes place in our world.
Well, actually, I totally understand them after devouring most of the AC wiki, but I'd love to fly them instead of just hear about them. :P
Fair enough, I never actually got to play AC1-3, started with 4.
And you don't even mention AC3 Electrosphere, greatest game of the series....
I just said Electrosphere, on the description of the thread when I made the discussion. And I wasn't alive when AC3 came out. And I wasn't a fan of the series until later in my current life
Yes, I played AC4, AC5 , and AC0. They were very similar despite AC5 being made years after AC4. However, AC5 and AC0 added a few features lacking in AC4 that made them better games. Lastly, AC5 had the most content so thats probably why they chose to remaster it instead of AC0.
I am not opposed to them remastering the games, I just prefer they work on AC8.
Also if there ever were to be a reason why they would pick 05 over Zero, it's because Zero underperformed in sales, it sold less than 04 and 05.
AC5 is Remastered on PS4. I own it. Its great. Its a huge game 17G size, was probably 5G or less on PS2. They didn't just upgrade to HD res, they made some changes to the HUD, updated it with better features, the MAP specifically. In addition, they updated the controls to a modern layout. Basically, they put the HUD and control upgrades from AC7 into the AC5 Remaster.
AC5 is a bigger(more content) game than AC0. 10 more missions etc... AC0 only has about 17 missions.
AC4 lacked features and AC0 was small(felt like AC5 expansion) so I am glad they chose AC5 out of the three games to remaster. However, I am not opposed to them remastering the other two, I would buy them.
Lastly, I still find myself playing AC6 on xbox for that colored missile smoke and replay saves. I hope they put it in AC8. It sure is fun watching the replay with colored smoke trails all over the map.
A colored smoke mod on AC7 would be cool, I did read CherrysDelight comments on nexus that he was trying to get it working but never happened. However, he did get colored contrails working.
The preorder exclusive for the PS4 version of AC7 came with a remastered version of AC5, just like the Xbone version came with AC6.
I know, it is BS, right? I played AC5 religiously as a teenager and I would probably play that more on Steam than AC7. It would be amazing if they outright remade AC5 with AC7 gameplay, but I doubt they could do anything like that in terms of legal licenses for some planes, political attitudes, and especially the voice acting (when did AC5 come out, like at least 15 years ago right?). And even if they did, it would probably have the same flaw as other Japanese game remakes where it just does not meet the overall par as the original, like with the Resident Evil 2 or RE3 remakes. AC5's story was so amazingly epic that they even made AC0 as a prequel to it, and I don't know if they can really replicate that success. Like really, Yuktobania barely even exists outside of AC5, despite being a major superpower.
AC0 was always designed to be a prequel to AC5, not an expansion. And while it had less missions, it had far more mission diversity. Do you not remember how it had the path system where you could be a knight/soldier/mercenary based on what targets you destroy, and this led to you encountering different enemy squads? I'm sure that one reason why they went this route was to innovate a way for mission diversity without adding additional content that would take up too much space on the PS2 disc. The story for AC0 was also pretty decent, and honestly it was a prequel done right.
Remember, Belka did nothing wrong.
Here's an article where Bamco clarifies it's not a remaster: https://www.gamerevolution.com/news/434415-ace-combat-5-ps4-pre-order-bonus-is-not-a-remaster-says-bandai-namco
It's kinda hilarious that you wanna call it a remaster when it has no upgraded textures or anything.
Not all remasters get the same treatment. Many increase resolution without texture upgrades. Moreover, sometimes texture upgrades make the game worse, look at the Bioshock Remasters.
Also, many PS2 games look great upscaled without texture upgrades. PCSX2 in hardware mode for example. On PCSX2 homepage they even have a saying about preventing remasters and there are no texture upgrades happening.
I can tell you the game is way better than any simple PS2 classic game running on PS4. Its not a straight port like we typically see. When I compare, it is night/day difference.
Lastly, I don't need to read some article that was written months prior to the games release to know what it is, I own the game.
