Also, try and pay attention for shoot indicators on the hud. If you approach from the right angle and don't come at them too fast, you should get good attack opportunities.
I just re-ran it on normal in an F2A with a single engine upgrade, the de-icing buff, and HVAA / Standard Missile buffs.
I scored more kills with standard missle than anything.
Seomtimes its more about situational awareness and scanning for better attack targets than rushing in at full afterburner and trying to pop off quick missile kills
My guess would be your completion time is too high
so in other words you want the mission to just be handed to you on a silver platter with little to no work put into it. man it feels much better to defeat something that is tough, my advice to you is, honestly get over it as you will eventually beat it you're obviously doing something wrong just need to identify what that is... i wish you luck games should not have to hold your hand unless you're playing some kiddie game that was designed that way.
Did you miss the named aircraft ?
keep in mind that if you die or fail mission after shooting down the named aircraft, it doesn't count, so you have to restart the mission.
There isn't anything more to it.
I just don't think people should trashtalk someone for not liking the drone mechanics. I found the drones to be annoying as well, by far the least interesting part of the game in my opinion. It doesn't help that they ALL just focus on the player, and your teammates are as useful as a wet dishrag.
As for them focusing on the player? They are supposed to be AI-powered drones, of course their algorithms are going to make them focus down the biggest threat when there are no specific objectives for them to focus on.
Mission 19 was the only time I found them annoying, and that was down to sheer numbers running me out of ammo for use on the AB.
There is no difference when dogfighting Mihaly. The insane maneuvering just makes the fight drag on. The only plus side about those is that it's only 1 opponent, and not a swarm.
This is what I mean about the get gud / big d!ck attitude. You should be able to voice an opinion without getting called a scrub. If you enjoy it, great! More power to you. I just find it annoying.
Git gud
I'm not saying you can't have an opinion, but you need to temper it with knowledge of what you are speaking about, not rage blindly and call it an opinion.
Mechanically, there is nothing wrong with how the drones/Mihaly/Sol squadron fly. The drones are little but chum in the water once you acknowledge that they can outmanuver you and begin to adapt to that, and Mihaly/Sol squad, as well as the ravens at the end, turn the game into a little bit of Souls, where you have to learn the boss's pattern or you won't be able to land hits without getting hit in return. What is wrong, particularly with Mihaly/Sol is that they are scripted to not die till certain things go on, which winds up in frustrating situations where you nail Mihaly 12+ times while people are talking and all you've actually done is waste your ammo because the script says he has plot armor still.
I'm not calling anyone a scrub, I've yet to do that. I've just commented that the drones are really not that hard, and that someone having problems with mission 7 has had a failure at basic gameplay. This isn't an opinion, it's a fact. This is literally a case of the OP needing to stop, take a step back, and evaluate rather than smashing his head into a brick wall and just fueling a pointless frustration. It's not the first time in the game you fight drones, nor is the drone ai in this encounter any better than in previous encounters. The only variable here, is the allies that need to be protected. Thing is, the OP has demonstrated he doesn't understand what is going on by calling it a 'timed failure'. The friendlies don't die based on a timer, they die if you don't move to kill the drone that is up their rear when they ping the map. This same mechanic is seen in an earlier mission, in basically the same situation. Don't waste time dogfighting random drones, focus on the mission criticals, especially when you aren't good enough at the game yet to efficiently dogfight with drones.
FFS, people have completed Mission 7 with just guns, using the A-10, which is the absolute slowest and second-least manuverable plane in the game. I did it the first time through on hard with just the stock F-16, and only failed once due to crashing into a rock after a bad approach on an XSAM.
The OP making the claim that the mission is 'broken' and that many people can't complete it is not them stating an opinion, it's them being factually wrong.
