This plane is just absolutely bonkers. I've been using the MiG in any match I can find because it has a low enough cost level that it can play anywhere, and let me tell you, this thing shreds at every single level. Nothing is safe from this monstrosity. Granted, it can be 1 shot by almost everything in the game as it has the lowest level of defense, but that doesn't stop the absolute destruction this thing can cause. I'm struggling to comprehend how I'm able to dodge literally every missile in the game like Bush dodges that shoe. The Machine Gun Pods are obnoxious. Any enemy with a large profile like the X-02s, F14, F15, etc. is just complete and utter food for them. I use all 4 of the Mobility Parts, Variable Cycle Engine, and all the mods for the Machine Guns, and this thing just demolishes anything it hits. This is more of a "Praise the Soviets for their superior technology" post. Did I mention this thing is the smallest plane in the game?
To sum it up, this plane has one of the best special weapons that will shred anything, mobility unparalleled (with the right parts), a gigazillion flares to go with that mobility,& smallness that makes it even more slippery. Legitimately, the only way to beat this thing is to run.

The only direct counter to this plane that I can find is the MiG-31 because it's simply too fast for the MiG-21 to chase.

In 2000 cost games the 21 catches the 31 because the 31 turns like a schoolbus when it gets near outside the map

Just do an immelman or a split s depending on current altitude while in the MiG-31 and you'll be fine when nearing the edge of the map. The climb rate of the 31 will still keep enough distance from the 21 to avoid gun fire.

Friend, I will say the Phantom is quite a match, but the MiG is still able to dodge some of the SASM, but I agree that that is the #1 way to kill them.

I have to admit, I've had the hardest time trying to take out MiG-21s with decent pilots in the >2000 lobbies. Probably the strongest plane in the class at least with SP weapons off. I don't use it myself though because I don't really like it that much.

The plane suffers from low defense, top speed, and acceleration, but these cons can somewhat be mitigated with mod parts. There's a little bias as well for certain aircraft. If these statistics are to be taken for what they are, the F-2A and F-15J can outdo their American counterparts, the Rafale M apparently has insane pitch characteristics and apparently the Su-34 can outmaneuver it's fighter rivals.

I noticed that. A Mig-21 in the right hands can outdo anyone in unlimited cost games. Its small payload is only really a downside in campaign.

The Machine Gun Pods have so much ammo that I don't know why you'd use anything other than them. The SAAM are good at sniping, but the Machine Gun Pods can be more effective with less weapon parts, so you can choose more mobility parts.

I was trying it with gunpods the other day and it went horribly bad.
