are allies useless?
I watch their planes fly by single targets on the ground without killing it, is the game geared to make me kill everything?

I've only seen allies kill enemies when the mission made them (like when you choose between two areas to go to) and the random once-in a while kill.

The Damage of Allies is reduced but they manage to kill enough Enemies in the bigger Missions, the problem is they choose their Targets randomly so it takes time to kill things if they focus all on a seperate Enemy.

Honestly, worst AI allies i've ever seen in AC series. Sure they deal dmg but they never focus the same target, so its gonna take about 1-2 mins to kill an enemy usually. As i see they are useless in AC7, im on my own in the whole single player game mode.

Honestly, yea.

They don't kill enemies so fast, can't hit their targets at all, and that they don't even give you the points you need to complete a objective which is big downsight of this game, thanks to the timer...
Yes, because they want you to actually play the game. Also the allies in old AC didn't really do much either.
If they made the allies too strong, they would just play the game for you.

The allied NPC jets in the early PS2 games did stuff; IIRC in 5 the allied craft especially your squadmates did well. Grimm was the best air-to-ground killer from end-game tallies and record stats. And in some NA versions of Ace Combat 3 as well. Story butcher aside they made the allied aircraft super compotent.

Waaaaaait, allies did anything in previous ones? :D Didn't noticed it.

Only really in AC5 and AC0 but ONLY because you could actually control them and say they should target X Enemy ... here it isnt that case.

AC5 wingmen weren't that great, but Pixy was a bit too good at times.

Fair enough, but for pixy it was also for the overall story that he would be a little bit better then the rest of the AI because of the ending so you would have also the feeling that he is really a ace like yourself.

Compared to Ace 6 I think allies are better. Or maybe just the way the game shows them is better. In Ace 6 enemies and allies just seemed to fly around eachother in a big ball like angry hornets. In Ace 7 you can actually see them chase / dog fight eachother. But in terms of actual "functionality" no they aren't useful because then they'd take all the kills.

I was actually playing one of those missions where you have to get a certain score to pass and as I was about to kill an enemy fighter an allied missile swooped in and stole the kill which actually irritated me lol.

They were targeted to kill those white enemies, not the red one sharing with you.

pixy is literally the only wingman in the entire series that actually vaguely pulled their weight; he can theoretically complete the round table by himself if you're completely terrible at the game

rena is the only one of 3's wingmen that's even mildly competent at their job, and that's only up until scylla and charybidis; after that, enemy aircraft start to reach parity with the super flanker

your wingmen in 5 are also complete - and annoying - wastes of space who are only useful in exactly one mission - that being 8492, where they are unaffected by the jammer aircraft and effectively mark the real aircraft on your minimap

x doesn't even have wingmen, but that's probably for the best

and 6's wingmen only 'do' things when you level up your support gauge, otherwise they just hang around, like furniture
Blaze Feb 2, 2019 @ 3:37am
That is the design decision. They want to make you feel like a one man army in this game so your allies aren't supposed to be useful at all.

Got to make sure that the ai leaves you with stuff to do.

Heh, I used wingman in AC2 when there were stealth aircrafts and set him/her to fight enemy aircrafts. Was a pain in the ass to look for them otherwise.
