Jokes even more on you f*** boy. I have more money than I need and even made a nice lengthy review. I thought I'd warn others who don't have the luxury of blowing money on ♥♥♥♥ games like me. You know, warn the little guys out there.
After Assault Horizon there was a lot of "Flak" directed towards the franchise. Ace Combat 7 is kind of a 'return' to roots style game. It's nearly identical to a PS2 Era Ace Combat game in literally every possible way.
It's also the first game to run on Unreal 4, and I doubt that made the game any easier to make for a team that hasn't used it before.
If you do not know Project Aces is not a AAA studio with endless resources/manpower like say "Dice" which can dish out games every single year. Despite you're complaints, this game was already delayed for a year so you can imagine what it would of been if It came out in 2018.
That being said, I often point to Ace Combat 6's mixed fanbase is primarily the reason that Assault Horizon even existed to begin with. A lot of people found Ace Combat 6's missions long and fatigue inducing for example. Which likely lead to the more action movie like gameplay of Assault Horizon. The campy "Cheese" you refer to is likely why they rejected a traditional Ace Combat style story for Ace Combat Assault Horizon as well.
Also there haven't been a lot of "Return to Roots" style games.
You seem upset, did I perhaps touch a nerve? lol
I wish Ace Combat was little more like PS2.
No mercy missles ( those are lame, and they kindoff miss the point of upgrading you airplanes in late game).
My biggest gripe is that you can literally finish the entire game with just 3 cheap planes on Ace hardness.
I think Ace 7 misses the mark its a bit more forgiving than those titles (I look back at those fondly).
6 by no means was my favorite, but it wasn't the worst in my eyes - - Dogfight mode was stupid in Assault horizons.
Too bad the fanbase only cares about the PS2 games so the devs are pretending the games that came after them didn't exist. Except for high g turns, at least they kept those. Those are nice.
Shame though I will never own an xbox
