How does Bamco get aircraft lisences?
I've been thinking about this for a while, since it seems they are having a harder time getting them and because i'm curious as to how they do it. Does anyone have the slightest clue as to how this process is carried out?

I think the reason why AC7 features less aircraft is not related to the difficulty of getting licenses.
They did get Tornado from Panavia back in AC5, and I don't see a reason they can't get it again. and Su-25 was never licensed anyway.
Likewise, if they want some weird aircraft, it shouldn't be a problem for them to get the licence, or to decide to release without license...

It's mostly about fees and terms.

In the 2000's, it was easy to secure licenses, because most arms companies saw it as free PR, this includes gun manufacturers for purposes of FPS. But since gaming has become the most profitable entertainment industry, everyone wants a piece of the pie.

So basically in a nutshell, Defense & Aerospace companies now charge to much on licenses for Bamco to afford? Funny thing. Kono said the reason they could not add the F-15S/MTD was because there was "not enough time" but, it would be back at some point in the future along those lines. Would you say that's an example of that?

No, they probably have the license for F-15S/MTD, but just didn't have time to create the in-game asset. Considering they already have three F-15's in the game, I guess they figured they could spare one.

Cost depends entirely on the license holder, most Sukhoi planes are licensed for Free, though I think Sukhoi is owned by the Russian government now

It's always going to be a balance of time and cost.

This is the first Ace Combat game of this generation and its also their first in the Unreal Engine, so most assets have had to be created from scratch.
Much like Ace Combat 6, which also had a smaller selection of aircraft.

Ace Combat Zero was released less than 2 years after Ace Combat 5, and part of the reason for that was re-using a lot of assets, aircraft and maps.
Ace Combat Infinity also reused a lot of assets from Assault Horizon.

Don't be surprised if AC7 had a very troubled development, given all the delays, the need to implement some VR for Sony. Given certain story elements and how they actually playout, I think it's likely some missions and especially cutscenes were left on the cutting room floor as well.

Don't know but I wish they added the J-20 in this game

Yeah, they should have had J-20 and J-31, those are the only truly original (Intellectual property theft not withstanding) Chinese Aircraft.

Rest of Chinese fighters are internally modified Sukhois and/or MiGs

They also should have had the Japanese F-3 (Technically the X-2 but it would have entered service as the F-3) even though nothing ever came from it. Nothing ever game from YF-23* and it's still here.

*Ironically, the Japanese Military may use the YF-23 as its new Air Superiority and Sea Interdiction fighter, I suspect Project Aces MAY have gotten the YF-23 License for free as a promotional/public awareness stunt, but this is just speculation.

Add J-10 to that indigenous Chinese fighter list, albeit it was based on the Israeli LAVI program which intended to make a next-gen F-16 Delta wing Fighter/attacker.
