Story Makes No Sense
Something about drones, something about war being bad, something about space elevator bad. Evil drones dead! War over, peace and stuff! Elevator fine! Oh look, a returning space mission!

I loved Ace Combat 5 for a lot of reasons, the story was great. This seems more like a random collection of stories someone forgot to organize, and a few missions got lost in a snowstorm.

The entire continent fell into Civil War as every individual country part of Usea and Erusea fractured and wanting to be independent. Which implies a continent of unhappy people under large union states. Like say the USSR, USA, EU, etc. All which are very fragile.

Even the core friction explained at the beginning of the game talks about the first war between Erusea and ISAF was caused because of mass refugees being forced upon Erusea by Usea and Osea. Ironically that is a bit that was written all the way back as the background story for Ace Combat 4 and how dangerous it can be.
Yeah but its very OTT, everyone is just itching to go to war, and everything is the fault of the military. Nothing is done in half measures here lol.

I think a lot of it is cultural. I'm rewatching the anime Gate and it has some similar views on the military where it just looks to criminalise them, for instance, they build military facilities in urban areas then complain when shot down planes land in them.

That said though the strategies in the conflict make no sense let alone where they build their bases.

With the smaller nations exploding into civil war and the previous comments they make, thats what makes me think the story is just trying to reinforce this idea of borders being the root cause of war.

Also they only ever have the pro peace parties shown in a good light. Not once did any of the conflict seem to be justified, and thats not to say a similar story couldnt justify the conflict, I think the point here is they didnt and thats the story they want to tell, which is very anti war.

Isn't the protagonist always silent in Ace Combat? I know previous ones had a little yes/no option in conversation every now & then but that's it.
yea and i never said anything about ace combat i simply stated i think silent protagonists shouldnt be allowed in single player games because they ruin them at worst and at best add nothing and make the story seem weird and master chief wasnt a sp in halo CE he had a few lines in cutscenes for what its worth

Honestly I'm firmly against voiced protagonist in a lot of game series they feel out of place and kill the atmosphere for me and based off how many downloads the silent protagonists mod had for Fallout 4 I'd say a lot of people also feel that way.

Now if it was optional to have a voiced protagonist sure but I still would choose silent

man i just cant see how ppl can think that way for story video games i feel the exact opposite tbh when ur character is being talked too and doesnt say anything it kills it i mean how many ppl do u know in real life that just dont talk but too each his own and i guess options are better then none also cmon using fallout 4 as an example is just unfair everyone knows they really fked up with how they handled the voiced protagonists in that game

"I understand the parts I understood" lol

The mute PC that the story revolves around is a Japanese story telling trope. Armored Core is the same for instance.

Another trope is non sensical plots lol.

Though, like OP says its like they just threw together a bunch of short stories and some of them are interesting, like your stay in the 444th and the ways that the members leave such as the unfortunate accident after commenting how intelligence gathering is a life or death business.

Was it an accident? Was it not? Its fun on its own.

Front Mission 3 had a pretty good story with a main character with an actual personality. Kinda acted like an angsty Gundam pilot but at least he asserted some sense of agency even if that game was a bit heavy on Japanese nationalistic undertones.
There was a story in this?.

To be really fair if its your first Ace Combat then its probably all a mess. To really understand it in its full spectrum you need to be aware that what happened in AC7 was basicly the Conclusion of Ace Combat 5 and Zero and to some extent, if we talk about the Drones, also Ace Combat 2 where it was first mentioned the development of the actual AI we are fighting here which is called Z.O.E. (Zone of the Endless).

So yeah i kind of understand you, if you look depper into all of that it has quite an intresting view on the whole strangereal World. But then again i know all of the ♥♥♥♥ that happens there.

Why Trigger never spoke a word except to be told to destroy this or that so that the plot goes on , which makes me so hard to relate to the characters or story .honestly, i am also confused about what the story trying to tell, since i've barely played earlier Ace Combats.
but i have to say gameplay totally worth the money.

Trigger is mentioned like a thousand times in the whole campaign lol

Barely any Main Character (except Assault Horizon) got a Voice Actor or lines. Thats the whole Ace Combat Franchise for you, you are the Player of these Voiceless Aces.

I'd go as far to say I'd be careful about Japanese tropes. They seem to have terrible taste more often than not.

The story in every AC game so far was random at best xD Dont get why ppl complain its just there as a hook to set the mission in, like there is any need for a reason to have cool dogfights with fighter jets.... :D

These japanese based games almost never make sense. I can never get into their storylines, they always seem so childish.

But I loved HAWX and since that series is dead, this is the only other option.
