I think a lot of it is cultural. I'm rewatching the anime Gate and it has some similar views on the military where it just looks to criminalise them, for instance, they build military facilities in urban areas then complain when shot down planes land in them.
That said though the strategies in the conflict make no sense let alone where they build their bases.
With the smaller nations exploding into civil war and the previous comments they make, thats what makes me think the story is just trying to reinforce this idea of borders being the root cause of war.
Also they only ever have the pro peace parties shown in a good light. Not once did any of the conflict seem to be justified, and thats not to say a similar story couldnt justify the conflict, I think the point here is they didnt and thats the story they want to tell, which is very anti war.
Honestly I'm firmly against voiced protagonist in a lot of game series they feel out of place and kill the atmosphere for me and based off how many downloads the silent protagonists mod had for Fallout 4 I'd say a lot of people also feel that way.
Now if it was optional to have a voiced protagonist sure but I still would choose silent
Front Mission 3 had a pretty good story with a main character with an actual personality. Kinda acted like an angsty Gundam pilot but at least he asserted some sense of agency even if that game was a bit heavy on Japanese nationalistic undertones.
So yeah i kind of understand you, if you look depper into all of that it has quite an intresting view on the whole strangereal World. But then again i know all of the ♥♥♥♥ that happens there.
but i have to say gameplay totally worth the money.
Barely any Main Character (except Assault Horizon) got a Voice Actor or lines. Thats the whole Ace Combat Franchise for you, you are the Player of these Voiceless Aces.
Yeah he's Triggered
But I loved HAWX and since that series is dead, this is the only other option.
