Project Aces should develop an Area 88 game
For those of you who are unaware, Area 88 is a manga (later an OVA and anime mini-series) that follows a mercenary unit of elite fighter pilots as they try to survive a brutal civil war in a fictional middle-eastern country. I always thought that Project Aces would be able to do a lot with the Area 88 license, as Ace Combat-style gameplay would be a perfect match for Area 88's story, and purchasing new weapons and aircraft is something that factors into both the manga and the Ace Combat games. So far, the only Area 88 video games that exist are U.N. Squadron for the Super Nintendo and it's arcade counterpart, so i think it's about time we got another one.

The Area 88 OVA can be found on YouTube here, if anyone's interested:

One of the inspirations Project Aces used when making their games was Area 88, it even has classics such as the low altitude canyon flight, I wouldn't be surprised at all if that part of Area 88's story was used as inspiration to make all those missions we see in the games. I think the whole mercenary concept from AC2 and Zero could have been inspired by that too.

I also believe the scenario of that story is ripe for using in an Ace Combat game. To be more precise, that kind of scenario concept would fit very well with one of the continents we onlly heard of in the story before, someone suggested in another thread regarding a future game for it to be a story in the 80's and I believe Area 88 would fit perfectly with that.

♥♥♥♥ english dub though, lol.

I think it would be cool if they actually acquire the license and made a full-on Area 88 game set in the Kingdom of Aslan. I haven't read the entire manga as they never actually finished the english translation, but i hear that later on there is a mission involving a land-based aircraft carrier that launches UAVs, which is just the sort of ridiculous thing i would expect from an Ace Combat game (if it hasn't been done already. I've only been with the series since AC6 and haven't played all the games).

Also, i just really want to be able to fly an F-8 Crusader with flaming unicorn tail art.

They should develop a Wing commander game

I don't think that would work. Flying around in open space isn't the sort of game that Project Aces is known for.

But they are know for making some cool ♥♥♥♥ up, design sick looking space fighter is totally within their ability, the two genre are very closely related, in the case of AC its almost just a skin away, other than the gravity mechanic. There isnt much choice for space shooter fans these days. Having a space game developed by know brand like project Ace would bring in both the space fans and ac fans.

Area88 is a perfect match for Ace combat, but it if they going to do it they should take more creative design on even the 'real' jets.

I would take a sim version of Area 88. The full experience. Goal is to earn the amount to pay off your contract. If you die, you start over. When I mean, if you die, meaning you did not escape with your life. Maintenance and supplies for your aircraft. Survive. The Ultimate coop experience. Maybe a PVP world experience as well but I think coop is the better way for this type of experience. I don't know about everyone else but this idea lives the Area 88 foreign legion experience.

I also been searching the internet for a long time for someone to produce this. ArmA, DCS, or anything else. I think strike fighters 2 mercenary mode is the only game that comes close enough to this. As you have to pay for aircraft, crew, and armament. You earn money through missions and what you did in the mission. But is missing the maintenance and money management feel to it for me as well as it is a old game but I thought was still good.

WOW, NICE NECRO.
And AC already is heavily inspired by Area 88. I rather want more original lore of Strangereal.

I believe there was a discussion about "ninja pilots" long ago, I suppose. 5 years, maybe?

I think of it as "a ninja is replacing the pilot to fly a fighter jet." I want that unique storytelling, not just a fan fiction of "Boruto flies for the Osean Air Force".

Out of curiosity, I once watched the anime version of Ace Combat trailers from Tiger Gaming channel. Never heard that this game is inspired by A88, yet even watching what kind of "classic anime" it is (despite being a big fan of Naruto and Boruto myself with aviation interests). I mean, what's so special about it? Is it like how Yukikaze is inspired (I watched some episodes on cable TV long ago)?

They already had an Area 88 Crossover (in Ace Combat Infinity, ugh). Ace Combat's love for canyon missions is undoubtedly inspired by Area 88, though the canyon in Area 88 was WAY narrower. Area 88 also had a few instances of "super weapons" (or, at least the manga did) that certainly inspired Ace Combat's affinity for those as well.

Maybe they can release an Area 88 mission pack DLC, with the skins made for infinity.

That would make the most sense, though I have no idea what kind of licensing hoops to jump through Area 88 has, if any.

Honestly, i think they should just make an entire Ace Combat spinoff game set in the Area 88 universe. I get that Project Aces might not want to try doing another spinoff after the lukewarm reception they received for both Assault Horizon and Infinity, but i personally think that most Ace Combat fans would welcome it so long as they don't mess with the gameplay too much.
PC release was a mistake
