In fact, IMO, this is the return of the classics, similar to Ace Combat 2. And I feel like I'm playing Ace Combat 2 when I play this game.
Compared to AH, you'll be only using jets and you'll have almost no scripted sequences at all, and even when something is scripted, it will never put your plane on rails, as in AH; instead you get a much wider freedom of action and approach to different situations, without any DFM or ASM, so it's up to you to stick to the tail of an enemy fighter, shake off an enemy or finding the best angle to attack a ground target, doing all of this stuff manually is much more satisfying than basically doing a Quick Time Event, IMO.
I'd suggest you take a look at some more gameplays around the internet and decide for yourself if you want to try it out. Personally, while I think AH was a nice idea and I still play it sometimes on my 360, I definitely prefer the classic gameplay AC7 has brought back, with more freedom and no QTEs. The decision is up to your own taste, I hope you find something you like here.
You prefer AH? That's totally nice. But you should not expect that intensity from 7. It is utterly different.
True but the pc port leaves a lot to be desired.
Thanks for the response, that was really informative and will give this game a go :) correct AH is my first AC game and intro to the series.
If you do pickup AC7 I suggest using a console controller with the game, I had a heck of a time trying it with mouse & keyboard before I hooked up my old usb 360 controller.
7 Brings us all back to the light of holy Ter... Stonehenge... Sand Island.
7 is, as stated above, a LOT more open then AH, there are some scripted fights, but more, cutscene, then a boss fight of outmanouvering a single plane, while trying to blast it.
The actual difference? Assault Horizon, is a linear button mashing palm sweater. 7? Is a semi sandbox experience. Key word, Experience. People complain about the story, I actually liked it for the most part, the tie in's to the old PS2 games are made of awesome.
As well as rebinding for all other gamepads / hotas setups and joysticks.
The option to swap roll with yaw on the mouse in the menus.
Plus a native 4k hud.
Also a better framerate.
You're kidding right? This game has 0 issues with framerate.
